This is one of the pathetic images of Vande Bharat Train shared by my uncle on WhatsApp. This makes me think whether we are really worthy of traveling in luxury trains like these. The Government of India has made painstaking efforts to launch this beautiful train, besides a huge amount of money for its maintenance and upkeep. As the responsible citizens of the country, is it not our duty to keep our surroundings and especially, Indian Railways clean?

Just imagine the plight of the cleaners and sweepers who tidied this mess up. Are we too lazy to pick up our trash and put it in the dustbin? This would only ruin India's image globally.

Shri. Narendra Modi, the honorable Prime Minister of India launched Swacchata Abhiyaan to promote cleanliness and hygiene to present India in a better light across the world. Earlier, Vandalism, open defecation and littering came to be associated with our country for which Modiji and his ministers worked relentlessly to clean the streets of India and constructed nearly 100 million toilets  according to https://swachhbharatmission.gov.in/sbmcms/index.htm

This is not restricted to defacing the trains or any public monument. People living in my neighborhood are also doing their best to clean their houses and dump the garbage in our backyards. They don't have the patience to wait for the garbage truck to pick up their trash.

We had recently cleaned our backyard but our new neighbour found it comfortable to dump it in our house. It looks like we have to be educated once again on the importance of cleanliness and personal hygiene. Given, the various mutations and variations of Covid-19, by now we should have learnt our lessons.

It's better late than never. We should contribute towards keeping our society clean by disposing of our garbage appropriately rather than littering it on the streets. The railways are public property and at no cost should they be converted into a dump yard or a pig sty. I earnestly appeal to all travelers to leave only pleasant memories behind and not trash.

Jai Hind!
