I walk down the bustling Pauline Street,
Full of lively crowd around but still empty within,
As I stroll through the crowd alone,
I remembered what good times they had been!
The times when I walked down this very street
With my love by my side while his hands laced with mine,
We roamed the alleys,
And escaped away to watch the stars stretched in never endling line;
The country music to which we danced so carefree on our feet!
But the laughter and promises now lost somewhere in the crowds of lively Pauline Street.
I just go on and there I see the local diner;
This time unlocking the memories of my friends sitting at the table with me.
Sipping on wine, gossiping, laughing and the singing
Now echoing in my ears as I gaze at the place silently,
Looking so magnificent, still vivacious as ever but missing somewhere,Fading away into the scent of saudade filling the air…
I stroll and stroll all by myself,
Not knowing where to go as I walk down this memory lane
Of love, friendship and leisure, those being the best days
But incomplete without the people I had with me back then.
I look back, cherishing the moments just to let them go
And take one last look at it,
At the vibrant crowds and never-ending roads,
As I walk down the bustling Pauline Street.
