It was the evening of Autumn,
When to his dining room, the Great Historian had just come.
He had something in his mind to do,
When asked his son, “Daddy, what is this World War Two!”

The Historian answered, “World War Two is nothing but the cries of humanity,
As millions of people died, due to stupid enmity!”
“I didn’t catch it well,” said the boy as he scratched his head,
The man replied, “Let me tell you about the war, as has been said.”

After a deep breath, the Historian began narrating what had been heard,
“It began when Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini had a vast army gathered.”
His son interrupted, “But, to stop them, there was the League of Nations!”
The Great Historian replied, “To maintain peace, there were no accelerations!

“The final nail in the coffin, was Hitler’s march into Poland,
For, he wanted Germany to perish or to expand!
Britain and France served an ultimatum on Germany,
In reply, Germany declared each as his enemy.

Germany, Italy and Japan formed the Axis powers,
And wreaked havoc by displaying their airpowers!
Britain, France and the USA were the allied powers,
Which countered the Axis, using their missiles as rain showers!

Up to 1942 the Axis were emerging victorious,
To know about their enemy’s latest strategies, they were too
curious.
But Suddenly the tide began to turn,
The Nazi ideology, the allies were determined to spurn!

The final blow came in April 1945,
When the victories of the Allies were on an all-time high!
Germany surrendered on the 7th of May,
But the US completed the war after filling Japan with dismay!”

“Many people would have died fighting the war,”
exclaimed the boy,
The Historian continued, “Peace and tranquillity, this war was
aimed to destroy!
Imperialism and Dictatorship was completely blemished,
At the cost of 70-85 million people who perished!”

Spoke the Historian’s son, “How inhumane that might have been.”
The Historian agreed, “Such brutality, the world had never before seen!”
The Great Historian further added, “But for many people, the war still is a great victory,
As the name of their country and leaders, in golden letters, got etched in history!”
