Thought I’d never go near the sea
Until I was at the edge and they pushed me
Funny how they say you can touch the sky
While the next minute they throw stones when you fly
So you try to run and hide
In a bid to calm your demons inside
Living under the shade
As you watch your glory fade
You go deep into the forest
Where there is no one to put you to test
The silence is golden and sweet
But in no time you are on your feet
You find a crowded city
Where you shove away your vulnerability
Just to blend in with people you don’t know
Making friends and foe
You try to be the big fish in a little sea
Forgetting what you wanted to be
Now all you want to do is find your feet
Because you left them somewhere on that busy street
Soon you realize your friends are as genuine as a three dollar bill
‘Cause all they do is stab you in the back and kill
And the city lights are no longer bright
So you run again and escape in fright
Now you’re back at the sea where it all began
Thinking about the times you hid and ran
You let the crashing waves wash away the dirt
Until you’re no longer hurt
The epiphany of it all washes over you
You’ve become brave and strong and new
You see the blue sky turn grey
This time you don’t run, you stay
Now you know you’re ready to fight
You don’t see darkness, you see light
So you stand your ground not letting the storm win
Because you’re here to combat, not give in
The winds try to knock you down
But you’re no longer the girl from that small town
Not looking for an escape but a weapon
Because you don’t want to be a coward, you don’t want to stay hidden
Realizing you’re unstoppable
The storm recedes, making you capable
Of realizing your strengths and weaknesses
Now you don’t need protection, you don’t need any harnesses
It’s a new day and you’re no longer afraid of what is to come
You’re now fearless.
