Oh! Human
Don’t think about gender;
It is only for identification
and not for discrimination.
Man woman both are equal
like the sea and the beach
So, give respect to each.
Men and women are the same,
stop playing discrimination game.

Gender inequality is one of the most relentless issues in our current modern society. It is a menacing problem which causes biased treatment between different genders. Women are considered as oppressed section of our society. It has been aptly marked that “the women’s environment has determined the nature of her slavery.” It continues to be an immense issue of concern in India.

The process of upbringing establishes the difference. The sons are being taught to not cry and to not express their emotions. The daughters are being taught to be helpful in household chores. But why this discrimination is being done? Boys can also cry, they do have emotions so, why not express them? Girls are CAPABLE of anything they set their minds to. This discrimination between daughters and sons is seen in nearly every home of our society. Son’s demands are always fulfilled, he gets more pampering. But, for daughters, the only things left is RESTRICTIONS. Both men and women are like two wheels of a vehicle, the life is incomplete without either of them. The best way to end this gender inequality is to allow girls to work with boys, educate people, promote respectful relationships, and raise awareness about gender inequality and individual rights. Charity begins at home. It means a lot of different things not only monetary. Respect, love, appreciation, and many other things. Equality is one of them. There is a 'man’ in every ‘woman’, a ‘he’ in every ‘she’, and a ‘hero’ in every ‘heroine’. Give her an equal opportunity and you will see the benefit with your own eyes.

The torture that girls bear even in well-to-do families is not generally considered. Most of the girls have to give up on their dreams because of discrimination and lack of support from their families. They are provided with the wings to fly higher and higher just like a phoenix they wished for. It’s deeply rooted in the minds of people that girls should ONLY do household chores rather than study and apply for a job. They are pressurized to get married. The thoughts and the dirt which they have accumulated in their minds for ages need to be washed away. Fighting for gender inequality is not just women’s agenda. Every individual in society should be accountable for it.

A girl should never need to be afraid or suppressed by anyone, raise their voice for their rights.

No girl is less than a boy. When we say that boys should study to have a bright career ahead, then girls should be also encouraged for the same. We should not have an option of marriage for girls instead. Both should be financially independent and it’s her choice if she wants to get married or not. Instead of taking loans for a daughter’s wedding and spending it on subtle things like dowry and all, one should spend that money on educating the daughters of the nation. As there is a saying that “Educate a girl child, she will be the nation’s pride.”

There are examples of girls who have done exceptionally well in various domains. For instance, females like Kalpana Chawla, Sunita Williams Shakuntala Devi, Katherine G. Johnson, Yamini

Krishnamurthy, Anoushka Shankar, J.K. Rowling, Jhumpa Lahiri, Sushma Swaraj, Aung San Suu Kyu, Michelle Obama, Suvra Mukherjee, Emma Watson, Sushmita Sen, Indira Nooyi, InduJain, etc have proved that women can excel in every field be it science,m mathematics, dance and music, literature, politics, entertainment, entrepreneur, etc.

For the same, several measures have been taken such as GIRLS GET EQUAL. “Girls get equal” is a global campaign demanding power, freedom, and representation for girls and young women.

It’s about ensuring every girl and young woman has power over her own life and can shape the world around her. A world free from harassment, discrimination, and violence. Imagine a world where you see and hear girls equally in the corridors of power, at decision-making tables, in boardrooms, and in the media. Imagine a world that values girls, and where girls value themselves. Girls Get Equal is campaigning in support of girls’ power, voice, participation, and leadership in over 60 countries. The girls’ rights movement is changing our world but girls can’t achieve equality alone, they need allies. They need you. Several government policies for reducing the gender gap in India are Beti bachao beti padhao, Mahila Shakti Kendra, Working women hostel, a scheme for adolescent girls, Mahila police volunteers, Rashtriya Mahila Kosh, National Creche scheme for the children of working mothers, Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandna Yojna, Deendayal Antyodaya yojana-National Urban Livelihood Mission, Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, Skill upgradation and Mahila Coir Yojana, Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme, Stand-up India, Mahila e-Haat, One stop center scheme, ujjwala scheme, Women helpline scheme, Swadhar Greh, Support to Training and Employment program for women scheme, Women Entrepreneurship Platform.

Women play an important role in the overall progress of the country. Therefore, they must be treated equally. Swami Vivekananda has said, "As a bird cannot fly on one wing, No society can make progress unless it’s women to join men in all activities." This statement has made crystal clear the importance of women in our society. It is unfortunate that despite plentiful government Measures for gender equality, the gender gap still exists in India. Only governmental roles are not enough to end these rather orthodox activities must be eradicated and people’s mindset must be changed. Even after teaching, this inequality prevails. We need to end this and to do this, every individual’s participation is required. We have to initiate the process in order to end it from its roots. A country can’t progress until and unless gender inequality gets eradicated.
