Sitting alone,
slipping into panic;
the clock ticking gets loud
more so each second...

Gradient from orange to pink
woven into a perfect circle of a sun
drowned into the hazy horizon
more so each minute...

Busy temple,
a beggar's dented plate
makes noise with bouncing coins
more so each hour...

Stray dog
feeds her fragile puppies,
that are falling into malnourishment
more so each day...

Barren tree over the lonely park bench;
as spring comes on,
shadow over the bench
more so each week...

Over the green hillock
the dream house of an old couple
coming into shape
more so each month...

Painting by the last art teacher
on the school wall
fades along with memories
more so each year...

Another telescope launched into space,
our understanding of the universe and
our place in it changes
more so each decade...

From the world wars
then climate change in addition;
the life-threatening problems of humanity
more so each century...

I sit in the middle of changes
more so with each different measure of time;
hoping nothing changes,
like for the Zen monk in a distant monastery…
