Walking on the ramp, wearing different outfits and clothing, setting trends, and looking attractive is all that we know about this field of occupation, right? BEING A MISS UNIVERSE OR MISS WORLD seems to be just a matter of beauty and few treatments. There are more than hundreds of models on stage and more than thousands of girls aspiring to become a model and enter this industry of glamour and glitz but all of these ladies do not get the same recognition and respect. Even in this era of modernization, these ladies have to face shaming and bullying. This occupation is not only limited to young ladies but young men, married women, and teenagers as well aspire to enter this industry and also have made many wonders. Yet, the families feel worried to let their child or wife enter this industry due to the environment there. Facing bullying, shaming, and trolling yet being strong and being confident, no doubt, it is one of the elite and wealthy industries yet there a lot more that needs to be known.
Everything has a face and a back, the face which is known and shown to the whole world, and the same implies here as well the face which is shown on screen and asked to smile on camera. Have you ever thought that DOES THE FACE HAVE A SMILING BACKSTORY?
These lines by Diane von Furstenberg narrate it all:
Fashion Industry has a responsibility to represent a healthy image of a woman, but to start weighting them and putting them against the wall, and making them feel like animals? No.
As the changing times, not only females but males are also part of this industry but most of the discrimination, bullying, and shaming are faced by women. Talking about trolling, when you step forward to set or start something new or to bring a change anywhere in the world the first thing that comes in is backlash. Most of the fashion trends are created on social media and irrespective of gender trollers are ready to fill your comment section with hate and they even don’t stop from giving rape and death threats. First and most evident negative of the fashion industry.
Secondly, coming to bullying and shaming here also gender no being thought, directors and casting directors are ready to target the arrow of weight and skin color. You are questioned about your weight your body shape and mostly your skin color which becomes the reason for a lot of rejection. Fair-skinned and slim models are preferred over dark-skinned or dull-colored ones, mostly faced by females. In general, body shaming and racism are one of those things prominent in the industry.
Lastly, CASTING COUCH, most of you must have heard about it, one of the darkest realities of this industry which is mostly hidden and unknown to the outer world. Casting Couch where the aspiring models seeking work in the industry are asked for sexual advantages as a condition of getting work or appraisals and mostly female candidates are caught in this loop, refusal to which becomes the biggest turndown for their careers.
ALL THOSE THINGS THAT ARE FULL OF GLITZ AND SEEM TO BE GLAMOROUS ARE NOT THAT EQUALLY LUSTUROUS AND BEAUTIFUL. SOME THINGS ARE YET TO BE KNOWN.
There is much more happening behind these cameras but these are a few bad realities that need the attention of people, to stop them. This is one of the important sources of income and inspiration across the globe, thus it needs to be a safe place to work.
