I read a wonderful line somewhere that “The reason why daughters love their Dad the most is that there is at least one man in the world who will never hurt her……Is that entirely true?? Probably not, sometimes his own father say “ It’s a girl ! kill her”.

If you peep into the “ world of a girl child”, what you will find ? A promising but gloomy, full of hope but in despair, bright but underprivileged, twinkle in eyes but remorse in the spirit.

Girls are the most beautiful creation of God and is also the pro-creator, mother of tomorrow. She is the woman who shapes the destiny of the civilization. The tragic irony of her destiny is that she faces the gravest concern of humanity. Our traditions and rituals had outlined them. Why there is so much ingrained prejudice against women? Despite of so much uproar over female feticides, there are lots of girl child who are getting trashed in garbage dumps.

”The emotional, sexual, and psychological stereotyping of females begins when the doctor says, ‘It’s a girl’ ”

– Shirley Chisholm

Yes abortion is legal in India but gender specific abortion is illegal. In our medical community we symbolized male as straight line and female as circle. Male is active, forceful, with power while female circle is for nurture ,inspires, creates ,encloses. Only women can nurture life in him.

Our patriarchal society considers right sex is masculine, wrong sex is feminine, the fit sex is masculine and the disabled one is feminine this preconceived notion to get rid off to the wrong one. Supporting their case they use to blame society, practices dowry issues. Yes they are somewhat responsible it’s a gift of our patriarchal society, We considered women womb should be preserved for son, the right sex females should be plucked out from the soil, it's like weeding.

To my horror, these bloodshed is prominent in among educated ones, they killed their daughter more skillfully than our uneducated counterparts. The sex ratio in India according to 2011 census is 940 females per 1000 of males. This adverse sex ratio is due to female foeticide and neglect of a girl child. I think mere legislation cannot change but we have to change the attitude of our society.

I think for this social campaign, we doctors and all other professionals should come forward and celebrate the birth of our little princess. In his book, Killing Women, Shmuley Boteach states, “If the world were comprised only of males and had no feminine energy whatsoever, we would witness male competitiveness, aggression, brute force, physical strength and domination—exclusively.” Without the feminine influence to curb his aggression, the male is unable to become a more cultivated person.

Being a mother of beautiful princess, I know how much she means to me, I can't imagine my life without her and I am sure my readers are also feeling same.

So please share the message “ SAVE GIRL CHILD to SAVE OUR CIVILIZATION".
