It is rightly said that “Necessity is the mother of invention”. We should be proud that we are living in an era of development of new technologies, better infrastructure and a so-called “higher standard of living” The one side of it is quite fascinating but it has a darker, bitter truth as the other side. We were so engaged in making our lives simpler that through all these decades we have ignored, harmed, and hurt our mother earth. The immense destruction caused by us has led to ecological imbalance and has far-reaching devastating effects on the present as well as the future generation. Nature has a beautiful mechanism for creating balance, and harmony among every species of the earth which we, humans have disturbed and harmed to a great extent for our greed We should remember “Earth provides enough to satisfy every man’s need but not every man’s greed”. As we humans are selfish, so let's try to understand this on the basis of our gains and losses. What are the basic amenities we need as humans to continue to live and evolve? Food to eat and grow, pure air to breathe in, and water to drink. What will happen when one by one these things vanish? To start with Water, one of the major things to support life on Earth. Earth has nearly 70 percent of it as water but less than one percent of it is fit for drinking.

The so-called most intelligent species has failed to understand its importance for many decades. Now the people in some areas are compelled to drink dirty water where there is scarcity but in urban areas where people pay their water bills, they consider it as their birthright to waste water as they have paid for it. Wastes from many chemical industries, thermal power plants, and even nuclear wastes have led to severe degradation of the quality of water and even population explosion had led to the accumulation of tremendous amounts of domestic wastes. It is not only pointing to a wounded future, it has wounded our present as well. The whole world developed nuclear weapons without considering their harmful effects but now as water scarcity barges in, that day is not very far away when they will use these weapons to fight for water. One can imagine the irony of fate we have in store for ourselves due to our ignorance. Fresh air is very necessary for the survival of every life form on earth, but we have not only polluted it to a large extent, we are even cutting down the sources of fresh air. Several harmful gases emission has led to the extinction of many species and caused climate concerns like global warming. Many of us are suffering from respiratory illness and the rapid increase in the temperatures of the earth has predicted the complications the future generations are going to face. The weird thing is we are cutting down trees which are sources of fresh air for our greed and ease of living but many of us are dying or suffering due to respiratory illness, droughts, and fatal climate change. Humans are those who cut trees, make paper out of them and write “save trees '' on them. When we, the present generation are facing such severe health issues then I doubt that will only wound the future or there will be no future to be wounded.

No human technology can replace nature’s technology over hundreds of millions of years to sustain life on Earth. We are so dependent on human technology that we don’t even consider Nature’s technology. We continue to use insecticides and pesticides for crops, so even the food we are eating is not nature friendly. We are exhausting natural resources at a speed faster than the speed of light! I am not sure whether future generations will get to use all those natural resources which we are misusing now. The chemicals and other health hazards that we use in our daily lives are slowly and slowly getting accumulated in our biological systems.  One of its major consequences will be that the future generations which evolve from us may be having some inborn life-threatening diseases. So, we are not only reducing their probability of survival by only degrading the earth's resources, but we are also causing our lifestyle to weaken our offspring’s immune system and their body strengths. So they will not only have adverse climatic conditions, extreme scarcity of water and fresh air but also less mental and physical strength to tackle those problems and also less natural resources for use. After mentioning all our basic amenities it is important to mention that the oxygen we breathe, the water we drink, the food we eat-they all depend on other forms of life. We know the basic mechanism that every life form is dependent on one or the other.

So, the extinction of any one or more species from the earth is definitely going to be fatal for the whole mother earth. The human population explosion has led to the loss of habitat of several thousands of species on the earth and hence their extinction. If it continues like this, that day is not very far away when we humans have to have to suffer and pay back for what we did to the dear and near ones of our mother earth. It is good to be techno-friendly but the concept of sustainable development and maintaining ecological balance should be kept in mind. The proper use of science is not to conquer nature but to live in it. In spite of all, I would where there is a will there is a way.

The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it. So, we should initiate to protect the environment and aware people of our beautiful mother earth. We don’t inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our successors. So, I want to create a world where the environment doesn’t need protection and why not do what we can and leave a sustainable legacy of our beautiful earth to our successors? I will continue to work for it.
