In a faraway land of Willow Creek, stood an old wish granting factory. The way to the Wish Granting factory was covered with bushes and trees. The people of Willow Creek visited this factory with the hope that all of their wishes would be granted once they made a wish.
Mr. Wishmaster, an old man, owns the factory, and he rarely comes outside and he rarely speaks. The visitors who had visited the factory told some of the people that he uttered only one word that is “Be careful, what you wish for”, then he always walked away to his study room.
Willy, a kid, aged eight, visited the wish granting factory with only one wish in his mind. He then stood in front of the massive wish granting factory and he entered through the wooden door and he stood there and made a wish. He said, “I wish to have unlimited supplies of candies and chocolates”, then within a few seconds his wish was granted and he returned home happily with a full and unlimited supplies of candies and chocolates.
Julie an old woman, visited the factory and as she entered, she saw Mr. Wishmaster sitting near the counter then she smiled at him but he looked at her and said only one word “Maam be careful what you wish for” and then he walked away. Julie then closed her eyes and made a wish, saying “I want to be young again”, and at that exact moment her whole appearance changed and she became younger. She laughed and screamed with excitement and said loudly, “Thank you for granting my wish” and she jumped happily and went home.
Robert a man who was occupied with work, visited the wish granting factory, and said, “I do not want to work anymore, I wish to spend the rest of my life freely with unlimited supplies of money”. His wish was granted immediately, he went back home and told his family about the wish he made and he said to them that he made fortunes today and then he laughed and slept on the couch like a log.
The news about the wish granting factory spread far and wide, people from different places visited the factory with the hope that their wishes would also come true. But all of them did not pay attention to what the Wishmaster said to them, he always said one word to the new visitors that is “Be careful what you wish for” but the people were so engrossed in making their wishes, that they hardly paid attention to his great words.
One fine day an old man, named Mr. Smith visited the factory, he smiled at Mr. Wishmaster and then Mr. Wishmaster also smiled at him. This is the first time that the Wishmaster has reciprocated a sweet gesture. Mr. Smith closed his eyes and made a wish saying “I am getting old, and my days are getting short, I only wish for my family and the people of this town to be happy and healthy” and then he left the factory with a warm smile on his face.
Months passed, and Willy the kid, who made a wish about getting unlimited supplies of chocolates and candies started gaining more and more weight. His family tried to stop him from consuming those sweet things but he ignored them and continued to devour the sweets. His family was frustrated and shouted saying that it was all because of that, wish granting factory!
Julie the old woman, who visited the factory and wished to become young again, became so obsessed with her beauty that she started to belittle people and she kept on praising herself by saying that I am the most beautiful woman in this town. She always stood by the mirror and stared at herself for hours and even if she found a strain of grey hair, she screamed and started throwing things, showing symptoms of psychological conditions.
Robert, the man who wished for an unlimited supply of money, did not even know what to do with his money. He always gets drunk, spends his money on gambling, and became addicted to alcohol. He was not the same man as before, earlier even if he was overworked he was disciplined, his health was perfect and he earned it for himself and his family, but now even if he had money, he always felt that he was lost and his health also started to deteriorate.
Mr. Smith, the old man who wished for the happiness of his family and the people, led a very happy and healthy life. Nothing had changed. He enjoyed spending time with his family, he was loved by the people and he always carried a gentle smile on his face wherever he went.
The news about Willy, Julie, Robert and Mr. Smith spread like wildfire throughout the town. Some people began to say that the wish granting factory should be burned while the family of Mr. Smith said that the factory indeed grants a wish of a person so it should not be burned.
People from all over the places who had visited the factory earlier, heard about the news and started to connect the dots and said, Willy, Julie, and Robert they all wished for themselves and yes, their wish was granted but it had its consequences, and then one man remembered that Mr. Wishmaster always said that “Be careful what you wish for” and started to question what did the old man Mr. Smith wished for, then the people started to mock Mr. Smith and said maybe to turn his grey hair black again and they all laughed but no one truly knew what he had wished for. So they all got curious and decided to visit him.
The people then gathered outside Mr. Smith’s house and shouted, “Hey old man what did you wish for”? then he came outside with a gentle smile on his face and said “ I made a wish for my family and the people to be happy and healthy”. Hearing his gentle wish the angry rage of the crowd became calm and they all were touched by his words and some of them even shed tears, knowing the true value of his wish.
From that day onwards, the people started to look at the wish granting factory and say “Our wishes did come true, but it had it’s own consequences,” so we all have to be careful of what we wish for, cause the true happiness of life does not lie in what we want to have, it lies in what we already have, so we need to learn to cherish the things we already have in order to know the true value of happiness.
