In a world where values are rare, mythology comes into the picture as our saviour. When a child listens to mythological stories, the child is learning values of life such as family, friendship, helping others, the meaning of giving, etc. It is very important for us to tell mythological tales to our kids as it will help our children to develop a strong value system. A child with artistic inclination can develop an art form and become very good at problem-solving when he/she listens to mythological stories.
All we need to do is to share our mythological tales with them and sit back and see them excel in all fields this is because in Indian mythology we find stories that will initiate young minds to imagine situations and characters. When we talk about science, you find that there is already a reference of it in mythology. Be it the chakras, Darwin’s Theory of Evolution, cloning, etc the mention is there in mythology.
Today in our stressful lives we know the importance of yoga. Yoga helps us to attain higher energy levels and attain a state of peace. The chakra system in our body is connected with our physical and emotional well-being. Don’t you think Darwin’s Theory of Evolution is related to Dasha avatar in our mythology? Aditi- the Sun God’s wife created Chaya to take her place as she could not tolerate the heat of the Sun. Are we not talking about cloning here?
Actually speaking you will find answers to all your problems in mythology. We must encourage our children to read mythological stories so that they can explore the world, and learn about good and bad traits. In fact, these are timeless stories from which we can learn a lot in every generation. We must start telling mythological stories to our children right from the foundational level so that they do not defer from the strong value system that they have developed and will be able to live in a better world. Our children will be able to relate to the rituals we perform and will start following it. We should understand our culture defines us and what we stand for.
We live in a world where our values are challenged on an everyday basis. A good understanding of our values will help us to hold our ground and stay strong. Reading mythological stories makes children curious and awakens intellect. Once the intellect is awakened, it will help our children excel in their academic performances as well.
So what are we waiting for? Let us initiate and develop an interest in our children to read mythological stories. Today many publishers have brought in interesting content on the same. The animated pictures and colorful books will help in developing and nurturing the interest of our children. Why do we always complain that today’s generation has no values? Who is responsible for it?
We have become so busy in our zest for living a better life that we run after the quintessential vitamin M which is needed for a good standard of living. In the process, we compromise on a lot of things. Our children have mental health issues from a young age. Can we make the right move at least now? Yes. Let’s turn towards mythology. It’s the in thing and never goes out of fashion.
