“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” - Nelson Mandela
A good teacher can change everything!”
Education is a multifaceted journey that extends beyond the boundaries of traditional classrooms and textbooks. In the pursuit of nurturing well-rounded individuals, the role of extracurricular activities stands as a cornerstone of holistic development.
Education today is merely about academics or instructions available to learners in a planned, organized manner imparted in educational institutes over a definite period of time and which are measured by the grades achieved in the examinations passed.
Education has various aims to fulfil in context with the needs of individuals, society and the the world at large. There are various areas of development that need individual attention and time to develop as children grow into adulthood. These developmental domains are-
Teachers are the individuals who engage every day in the process of teaching and learning beginning from the parental community to decision makers in the education sector. The role of teachers is to impart knowledge, important values, ethics, and discipline to students while also helping them through their academic journey. Teachers shape young minds and help them in doing great things. According to Kabir Das - a great poet, “Teacher is even greater than God. He says, if the teacher and God are both in front of me, who will I greet first? He then says it is only because of the teacher’s teaching that I can see God.” It shows how important role a teacher plays in educating students. They do not just teach students but influence them for good. The role of a teacher is not limited to only the classroom but their different roles can be seen even outside the classroom. They can contribute to school improvement by going beyond textbooks and using real-life examples to assist pupils in understanding subjects better. Teachers enable a successful transition from one lesson to the next by connecting with students and giving regular advice. Different roles that teachers undertake are as follows: A role model
National Education Policy 2023 sets out to position India as a powerhouse in education. The policy focuses on embracing online learning extending school hours and moving away from memorization to establish an accessible learning environment that empowers individuals from diverse backgrounds. At the core of this policy’s vision is nurturing skills for the 21st century such as critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving. The policy envisions the establishment of institutions including universities leveraging technology to enhance students' educational experiences. One significant departure is the shift from the 10+2 model to a more progressive structure known as 5+3+3+4. This new framework places emphasis on developing skills and life competencies at all levels of education.
Today, the curriculum needs to adapt itself to include the development of important skills such as self-awareness, team building, creative thinking, problem-solving, effective oral and written communication skills, imagination as well as entrepreneurship among students. In order to do this, our education system should shift from being teacher-centric to student-centric and from isolated classrooms to outdoor education and education that includes the use of technology. Teachers have to move away from being a lecturer alone and play many different roles in order to make teaching-learning more effective and student-centered. The teacher is the pivot of the education system. The teaching community plays a greater part in moulding the future and personality of children. Students need teachers who can collaborate and productively facilitate their use of technology and who can engage them and excite them about realistic workplace choices as well as life-long interests. A good teacher helps us to become good human beings in society and good citizens of the country. Because teachers know that students are the future of any country. The great nation is built through a teacher in the four walls of a classroom and also it creates artists, singers, builders, doctors, scientists, and all other professionals. The special education teacher is to plan how the special education students can meet the goals. In spite of having the personality of a strict person, teachers are kind-hearted and love their students. Due to all these reasons, the role of a teacher is an important factor in one’s life. The duties of a teacher include conducting tests, assigning homework, and communicating with parents.
The role of a teacher goes beyond the conventional thinking that a teacher only educates students. They were supposed to follow a specific curriculum but in the modern scenario, the teacher’s role is not limited to the transaction of curriculum. Today, they educate students, mentor them, and give them practical knowledge.
Thus it can be safely concluded that the teacher is the pivot of the education system as he is the only person who
“A good teacher can inspire hope, ignite the imagination, and instill a love of learning.”
We should believe in the saying of great Indian philosopher and leader Dr. S Radhakrishnan...
“A teacher is a friend, philosopher, and guide who takes us on the right path "
