I gazed endlessly at your chariot riding across the sky,
Following in your path- adoring and wide-eyed.
I bask in every little ray that you happen to throw my way
While bedazzling the universe with the rest of it.

I followed the shift in your orbit, the one I'd never enter
And abandon my own to get close to it.
I absorb your divinity through a looking glass
Reciting a prayer that was never meant to be heard.

I held still through the natural disasters you caused,
Inhaled the smoke like it was perfume just to clear the air
Recoloured my portrait to fit your vision, then reshaped your petals while mine were bent out of shape
I did all the extra credit only to be uprooted and replaced.

As you leave me in darkness, I search for your bright side
Reflecting off a crater-filled rock
I wait patiently, rooted to the spot
For you to let me worship the ruins you ignite.

You can cut me down every time,
and I'll pray to you to regenerate
Once again yearning to be in your spotlight.
I'll find something new that appeals to you
And remain a sunflower in the garden you illuminate.
