BACKGROUND:

“Nature” the word heard and known since birth is nothing but the environment that has been giving us the shelter and environment to keep our existence, grow–up, and also multiply. It includes the soil, water and air that are giving us life. Nature, by it’s character, is beautiful, kind hearted and pure. It provides all it’s resources to not only the human society but also to the animal kingdom. It never asks for any return, only gives with kindness.

India is such a country that produced a good number of scholars who studied, researched, and taught society about nature, its characters, and its gifts. There are many examples of activities of the Indians to show respect and love to the nature. Indian philosophy witnesses the similarity of the human body with nature. Comparison of the anatomical and physiological units of the body with the 3 poles (energy) of nature i.e. Soma (Moon), Surya (Sun), and Vayu (Air) are the best examples of the concept.

Prayer and offering to the different components, viz. tree, sea, snake, eminent personalities (Rishi and Muni) are the best example of respect of the human society towards the nature. Ancient Indians are also taught not to cause any injury/ loss of the nature without valid need only for self benefit or satisfaction. The lines of grief of the great sage “Balmiki” seeing the death of one of the swan couple being injured with the arrow of the hunter is definitely proving the love and respect of him towards the nature.

THE PRESENT SITUATION:

Human society, taking a position at the pick of civilization, is now in anxiety and fear of forwarding towards destruction due to a number of causes like, air pollution, water pollution, soil pollution etc. The main cause behind this is nothing but the unethical human activities. Burning of Fossil fuel, industrial emission, microbial decaying process, open burning of garbage waste, etc. are the causes of air pollution for which the human society is responsible. Destruction of forests, unplanned construction, etc. are the contributing factors of large scale air pollution which are also the result of human activity.

The factors that are causing pollution of water are–industrial waste, sewage and wastewater, burning of fossil fuels, mining activities, accidental oil leakage, etc. are also caused by the human activities.

Soil is commonly polluted by the activities like unplanned waste disposal, improper use of fertilizer, mining, deforestation, etc. for which also human society cannot avoid responsibility.

It is known to all that, the human society, even having the knowledge of the harmful effects of the activities against the nature, not being able to avoid the habits to continue these activities. In many situations, human society has experienced the direct harmful effects of their activities. Preservation of nature in its own condition is proved to be a challenge for human society in the present time.

The international forums are compelled to discuss the present situation of danger to the nature repeatedly with the aim to find out solution. Reduction of harm to the nature is proved to be a burning problem for the researchers, scholars and the political leaders.

WHAT IS THE FUTURE OF THE PRESENT SITUATION:

The natural components, viz. air, water, and soil pollution may affect human society in the following ways –

It is expected that,

  • Between 2030-2050 there will be 2,50,000 additional death per year from malnutrition, malaria, diarrhea, and heat stress.
  • The estimated direct damage cost to health by 2030 is USD 2-4 billion/ year. Even in relation to water level, rain, temperature, the natural disaster also there is a chance of change in character, quantity, etc. The ground water level may go down, sea water level may become abnormally high, environmental temperature may reach an extreme level, frequent and high intensity earthquake may occur and abnormal flood may cause suffering to the people .

As a result of these abnormalities production of food will reduce , animals will die resulting in deficiency of animal origin food products , the chance of epidemic/ pandemic outbreak will increase resulting in suffering / death of the persons

THE DUTY OF THE INDIVIDUALS IN THE PRESENT SITUATION :

Each and every individual should feel concerned and responsible in the present situation and give their effort up to the optimum level to protect the nature’s balance and peace. By following some rules an individual can contribute towards the mission “Protection of the Mother Nature” which is valuable and can be considered as the demand of the time –

  1. Reduce the activities that cause a burn of the harmful gas elimination like plastic, rubber, etc.
  2. Reduce the use of vehicles as it causes air pollution by emitting harmful gases like Carbon Monoxide, Carbon dioxide, etc.
  3. Arrangement of proper, systematic and planned household and industrial waste disposal system is important to protect the integrity of nature .
  4. At the research level alternatives for the substances like fossil oils, plastic etc. should be searched .

HUMAN SOCIETY IS SEEMED TO BE IN DANGER DUE TO THE SELF ACTIVITIES. HONOUR THE NATURE, PROTECT HER FROM HARMFUL ACTIVITIES AND SUBSTANCES. THEN ONLY THE HUMAN SOCIETY WILL BE ABLE TO LIVE PEACEFULLY AND ENJOY THE NATURE’S GIFTS.
