Information technology has brought tremendous changes in the day-to-day lives of human beings globally, positives as well as negatives. Before the advent of information technology especially human beings had a deep bonding with each other in their personal and professional life. Communication was the key to knowing about each other then but as of now, it’s communication with the electronic gadget from dawn. In the olden days parents as soon they woke up, they used to look towards God’s idols or pictures which used to adore the house walls and children used to look at their parents when they woke up from sleep. The two characters in this article are human beings and a mobile phone relationship.
In a state capital city of a state the city’s Railway and bus terminal junction is where people arrive from various states of India in search of livelihood and some people visit their dear and near ones who are residents of capital city. Apart from the above-mentioned visitors, there are local people who commute by bus and train to their workplace in everyday scenarios irrespective of the different seasons in the year. In the midst of these maddening crowds, there are organized criminal groups engaged in robbing mobile phones and flesh trafficking, child trafficking mafia well oiled by the powerful mafia groups who pay hefty sums to those who lure their prey in pushing them into a commercial sex worker, child labor and slave labor in brick kilns owned society’s powerful people with money and muscle power.
An ordinary teaching faculty working away from the capital city where he is residing for his livelihood. Every week beginning he has to travel towards the campus either by train or bus to return back on the weekend at dusk. On one such visit after his arrival at the city bus terminal, he’s losing his smart handset and his psychological trauma forms the crux of this article.
In the bygone era to recall when we land from outstation at the main bus terminal one comes across people with families communicating with each other and waiting for the arrival of their home destination buses at the marked platforms. Extrovert individuals will like to get into conversation with fellow human beings and introvert will individuals will be occupied with newspapers to know the latest news. It was a golden era of strangers getting to know each other while waiting for a bus ride to their respective homes. Now one witnesses the majority of the people browsing on their handset and some listening to their headset music devoid of communication. All these human beings are unaware that there is an organized criminal well dressed watching the moves of waiting commuters in all the platforms in the bus terminal. Rajesh too such a commuter who is to take leave of the city early Monday dawn and used to return back to the city on every weekend dusk. On that fateful Friday evening after arrival at the Railway terminal, he started trudging towards the bus terminal with his luggage baggage. Rajesh despite being a teaching faculty was literally addicted to the electronic gadget, especially in the social site Instagram. He was an extrovert bachelor who loved his nomadic life and his comrade in solitude was his device. In the initial stage, it was a habit formation that pushed him into an addictive stage that in the middle of the night and early dawn he will browse Instagram to know about the latest updated news and entertainment. During the day time, his routine classroom assignment made him to stay away from the bond but still, when he had leisure periods his addiction will push his hands to browse the handset. There is a diagnosis and treatment for chemical substance addiction and abuse, whereas it's difficult to find a cure for electronic gadget addiction spreading fast from a tiny tot to the middle-aged population. Occupational therapy is the only medication for electronic gadget addiction which exposes a threat in oral communication in a relationship among human beings in personal and professional lives. Rajesh was eagerly waiting for his bus to reach home to freshen up and to have homely food cooked by his sibling's sister with a family of her own. His hands were browsing on his handset and his eyes on the arrivals of buses on that platform in the midst of many passengers waiting for their respective destination buses. After some time as the bus arrived, a crowd was jostling and pushing each other to board the bus and Rajesh hastily thrusting the phone into his pant hip pocket. The mobile phone fell on the staircase of the bus and he could hear the thud noise and he was searching for it in the footsteps of the staircase and underneath the bus wheel. Alas! As he got into the bus he saw sparse passengers whereas when he was boarding the bus there was a crowd pushing one another to get into the bus. His adrenaline was rushing that it was a plot by the organized mobile robber gang to create a scene of rushing just to rob a commuter phone and vanishing from the scene. His mind went to blank or blackout what to do next? He came out of the parked bus telling his woes to a fellow educated passenger who offered his phone to make a call to his sim number and got a reply it was switched off. One suggested a file a FIR and one gave a suggestion to approach a cyber crime wing of the police. It was drizzling as the monsoon had just begun. Rajesh felt losing a handset is losing oneself as everything hinges on line transactions from Bank accounts to money transfers. He lost his self-control and decided to approach the mobile phone service center to block his sim to stop the miscreants from hacking his phone and tracking the date details. He felt numb and even suicidal too but later composed himself to travel towards his home and approach a service center to block his dual sims in order to save his personal and bank detail from the mobile phone robbers. Rajesh realized his follies of becoming addicted to his device and its psychological consequences and trauma that one has to endure to accept the truth.
Losing a mobile phone is more than losing a dear one in mortal life as the device is the life online with a data card which stores personal, professional details. It invites psychological disturbances of the mind going blank and the body becomes numb. Even life skills to cope with the challenge with a positive mind do not accept loss as the mind itself gets into a state of blackout as one gets into anxiety, fear, and suicide too. Hence losing one's handset or mobile phone is life on knife razor-sharp edge of the experience which takes its own time for the acceptance of the loss.
