In India, it is one of the most common crimes, so humiliating, traumatic and terrifying the word 'rape' is that it destroys a person psychologically and affects the deepest emotions of the person being raped. India used to believe in the concept of MAATRI DEVO BHAVA which means to worship women of the mother but looking at the current scenario of the country the number of rape cases we hear daily on the news seems that the concept of MAATRI DEVO BHAVA has disappeared. Rape is a crime not only against the victim as an individual but against society as a whole, it is a crime against basic human rights. In India whenever rape happens the case turns into a gender equality problem then caste problems it takes so many things along. No single definition can define the word rape because of its exhaustive nature, only the person who suffers knows it.
Women are not safe in India with the rising number of rape cases being registered in India on a daily basis, women not even a girl child are safe in their own house or outside.
The reasons behind the increase in sexual violence cases are:
In a patriarchal society there is a lack of awareness about sexuality, consent and treating women with respect they treat women as a 'thing' also they think that women are only to follow their commands and can do anything with them.
Weak legal systems such as delays in trials and low conviction rates also due to less number of female police.
Her beauty, her clothes and her behaviour caused the rape, then what was the fault of 6,8,10-year-old girl when she was wearing a school dress... Harsh but true.
Indian society sees domestic violence to be something deserving, indian women think being beaten by their husbands is fine. Also, it's not their fault it's our society that has taught them from childhood that you are a girl you have to only serve.
Some people in Indian society believe that women who drink, smoke and go out late at night are immoral and are responsible for rape, if the public themselves are okay with this kind of thought then definitely women in India are never going to be safe.
Some people believe that rape cases are increasing due to women occupying more public spaces and challenging male hegemony, Indian society only wants women to see in the kitchen they believe that the kitchen is the place where women belong. If this is what Indian society believes then why did Jyotiba Roy Phule teach his wife, why? Where had gone the equality, which is written in the constitution?
Not investing properly, especially the cases of lower castes people and also who are economically weaker, these cases are just being kept hidden in the police station.
None of the families in Indian society is ready to accept the fact that someone in their family has been raped, they advise the victim to stay away from the haphazard caused by rape in the police station. This is the sole reason why most of the rapes are not even registered in India.
We can overcome this criminal activity by ' Raising the boy right from birth don't teach your daughter to dress well or don't go out at night this or that instead of that teach your son to be within limits tell them to watch properly and don't go late at night.
Basically, the real problem in Indian society especially with Indian moms they treat their sons as "Raja beta" So, if you are treating your son as a Raja beta then treat your daughter also as a Rani beti don't differentiate that affects too badly their thoughts also teach your son to respect every girl/ women not only his sister, this is the main factor that will decrease in a huge number of rape cases. Also, the problem with Indian society is whenever any rape happens only the victim is questioned not the rapist. The victim has to go questioned by society and sometimes even blamed for the rape herself. But at the same time if somewhere murder takes place then no one questions the body or family members of the murdered person.
Likewise, all the individuals in Indian society are busy educating victims but do not educate the other side of the party regarding dos and don'ts. Many of us don't even know that the boys in India are being raped but they don't talk about it because there are no help centres for them, and laws are even gender biased. So everyone must adapt the practice of educating what's wrong and what's right. Because they are the ones who are going to make a difference in future.
To conclude, there is no age factor, race or social status which causes rape. Create awareness about bad touch and good touch to kids, of course, both boys and girls. Also, there's some political sensitivity, judicial sensitivity, special courts, police stations and training programmes to be able to control the worsening situations.
