What’s the major problem with the modern-day education system? Yes, humanity has achieved great heights and has accomplished a lot in terms of space exploration, human anatomy, engineering, and medicine, but are we creating great minds for the future? Humans have built a system to create modern-day workers. These homo-sapiens are equipped with classroom education and degrees to make them eligible for a corporate seat. Does this help the economy, society, and our world or should we do more about the education sector? I don’t want to confuse you with the direction of this article, and I will come straight to the point! Do you think our education system is flawed? If the answer is yes, then why? I endorse the fact that our education system is completely flawed with no utilization of one of the most important aspects of intellectualism, “critical thinking”.

The youth is instructed to memorize a piece of paper for a certain period and this activity is used to determine his/her talent, success, and intelligence. Let me give you an example and show you how the system is flawed and why we must take a step to change it for a better future. A student is asked a question, “What is the green pigment on leaves called?” The student mugs up the answer and mentions ‘chlorophyll’ in the exam. He secured good marks and is deemed the next Albert Einstein by the academic institution due to his/her phenomenal ability to memorize textbooks. The student forgets about chlorophyll in a few days and he/she fails to explain the concept and its significance to plants. The student does not know other concepts, and this is what makes them a fool rather than an intellectual. We are making them clowns who are living a fake reality of success and accomplishment. So, what should we do? Before that let me quickly tell you the need for mugging things up by our beloved students. The academic institutions are running at the speed of light. Concepts and theories are assumed to be taught in quicker periods. This forces the student to ignore the idea of digging deeper into the concept and hence relies on mugging things up. What should we do about this long-running tradition in our highly flawed and backward education system…

The answer is WHY!

Teach our kids to question and reason statements. If the green pigment on leaves is chlorophyll, so why do we call it that, and what is its purpose?

When humanity starts thinking like this, they tend to move towards becoming a better class of graduates that the education system produces annually. The key should be to teach critical thinking and logical reasoning from a very young age. The act of reasoning, analyzing, comparing, and researching should be taught from a younger age. This will help our students to become better learners and they will grasp concepts and theories more quickly and efficiently.

Another way in which the education system can improve its entity ad presence is by changing the minds of our young champions. These age bars which are often set by them, and the society for academic and social progress should be avoided and eliminated. This leads to tension and anxiety for students due to social pressure, which forces them to make wrong decisions that impact their future lives and careers drastically. Our education system has killed many more famous scientists, singers, dancers, painters, and entertainers, that could have given us with amazing findings and creations. It has forced those artists to live a suit-and-tie lifestyle and serve like slaves till their demise. To make a change, we must adopt these learning mechanisms in our life and education system. We must accept and acknowledge the fact that “Learning never stops in life”. Learning will always keep you company, and I believe that we should learn something new every day. Then we will be able to contribute fully towards the economic and social development of our planet in a sustainable manner that shapes the future beautifully.
