Road infrastructure and the transport sector are the backbone of our economy as they facilitate the functioning of various other industries, ranging from tourism to retail to shipment to hospitality. In our day-to-day lives, we utilize the means of transport and the infrastructure supporting it on a daily basis to function in our lives, but the growth of a massive population and the presence of improper roadways halt the comfort and increase the liability of stress in our lives.

Every day, we come across situations in the news where, either due to the negligence of the driver or improper planning of the infrastructure of roads, countless lives and properties are being lost. These losses not only expose the loopholes in the legal system but also undermine the psychological impact and economic losses that these accidents cause. Road accidents can occur due to several reasons, ranging from legal, economic, training, civil engineering, and environmental.

When we speak about the training of drivers ranging from truck drivers to everyday laymen, it becomes imperative to distinguish their needs and goals for training and development. A layman must be given a proper training course, ranging from several drills to tests, for several months before their license is accepted, and the training must be done properly without the occurrence of gender biases. Similarly, at the time of the accident, technology must be made available for the driver either in their driving equipment or vehicle to make an emergency distress call so that they can be rushed to the hospital. Similarly, drivers who drive on a professional basis must be given proper training for a minimum period of 5 years before their license is issued. Secondly, their age must be checked so that underage boys don't join the business. Third, the age and education level of an individual must be clarified so that the driver is physically and mentally sound to drive a heavily loaded vehicle.

It's also important that truck drivers are provided with proper, reasonable conditions on highways by the companies they work for so that they're provided adequate rest to continue their journey. The demand-to-supply ratio must also be checked, as drivers who are overworked and are not in the right state of mind must not take the place of those drivers who are young and can fill in their spots for them to rest. Proper identification must be made so that drivers who have had a history of improper driving and negligence must be barred from participating in further driving activities.

It also becomes crucial that the fitness of vehicles must be taken into consideration. Vehicles that are ten years old or older must be fined. Similarly technology and services of the vehicles have to be improved as well. School buses must be yellow in order to identify them. Secondly, a school must be sent for a monthly fitness check, and third, the buses must have first aid kits and a helper to look after the students in moments of distress. Vehicles must not be laden with objects exceeding their base or unladen weight. Protrusion of iron rods out of vehicles must be seized immediately.

Many truck drivers have been reported to consume intoxicants in order to keep themselves awake due to long working hours and schedules, and have also confessed to giving bribes to traffic police at highways. In such cases, it becomes necessary for the police to establish a patrolling squad near the highways to seize the vehicles, vehicles laden with weight exceeding objects, vehicles with improper fitness, corrupt traffic police, intoxicated drivers, and drug deals taking place at highways.
