In the heart of April's embrace,
Earth Day dances with grace,
A billion voices rise in unity,
For our planet's precious sanctity.
"Planet vs. Plastics," the call resounds,
As global communities come around,
To reduce, to recycle, to renew,
For Earth and sky, and oceans blue.
From McConnell's vision pure,
To Nelson's teach-in, bold and sure,
The spirit of Earth Day soars,
Inspiring millions, and opening new doors.
Global warming is one of climate changes aftershock
Forcing pygmy possums, before their preys the Bongong moth, out of hibernation
Warming temperatures lead to species moving to higher elevations
14 small mammals extended their range by 1640 feet in the Sierra Nevada region.
Climate change also means increased volcanic activity
Leading to decline in food staples like wheat, corn and coffee
It is responsible in increasing the factors that put and keep people in poverty
And is guilty of resurfacing of diseases super deadly !!
7.6 billion people represent 0.01% of all living things by weight
Yet, we cause the loss of 83% of wild mammals and half the plants
As, we encroach upon the natural world,
Through deforestation and urbanization!
Ongoing is a mass extinction
Called the Holocene extinction, it was started by humans
Habitat encroachment, climate change and pollution
Is destroying our world and human civilization
We can feel the aftereffects of our deeds
The air is hazardous, and the soil is not fit for seeds
We must realise that the world should be saved
Without global cooperation the path of the future cannot be paved
Without strong environmental laws and an Institution
We will be unable to protect our world from destruction
Failure to meet global environmental commitment
Or support the implementation of Multilateral Environmental Agreements
The UN Framework mentioned in SDG 13
Helps countries to adapt to the impacts of climate change
By restoring mangrove, swamps and coral reefs,
Installing renewable energy sources or regrowing forests
In '24, the theme is clear,
A world free from plastic fear,
Let's heed the call, make a stand,
Protecting Earth's delicate land.
As we mark this special year,
Let's cherish our planet dear,
For the children of every nation,
Let's unite in conservation.
May Earth Day's legacy endure,
Guiding us to solutions sure,
As, the 55th anniversary nears,
With hope, love, and environmental cheers.
