AI also has the potential to help design assistive technologies that provide improved communication, learning, and skill development opportunities for neurodivergent individuals and allow them to contribute their innovative thoughts and abilities to society.
Knowing neurodiversity is not only to be conscious but a shift of mind and a commitment to create an environment that embraces and nurtures all irrespective of their neurological difference. For people with speech and language impairments, AI-powered speech recognition and natural language processing technologies can enable communication that was just not imaginable before. Many individuals on the autism spectrum have outstanding skills for recognizing patterns and visuals. Their ability to notice minute details and to identify patterns that others will not catch is invaluable in helping to train AI software applications.
Problem-solving and data analysis are two other paths. Neurodiverse individuals possess excellent reasoning skills based on logic and a phenomenal ability to think creatively. Once we include their cognitive skills in AI systems, we can maximize algorithms' analytical capabilities and make problem-solving solutions more sophisticated. Neurodiverse participants must be part of the development and design phase so that AI interventions react to their needs.
