Mark, a teenage boy who had just reached grade 10, was intensely clicking buttons on his keyboard. He was nearly winning a round on his favorite game: Hollow Moonlight. Suddenly, his mom stormed in and turned off the computer. She angrily said,” I’ve called you five times to eat your lunch. You already have a competition this evening! Now come eat!” She left the room. Mark groaned and went to the dining room.

After a heavy lunch, Mark went into his room and took a nap. He woke up at 6. “Oh, it’s only 6 o’clock… WAIT IT’S SIX O CLOCK?! I'M LATE!” Mark rushed out of his room and grabbed his essential items: his phone, his computer, and his gamer tag which was given by the official Moonlight Co. company.

Mark was late. By the time he reached it, everyone in the gaming plaza was ready to start. An employee at the competition asked to see his gamer tag and then took him to his seat. Mark quickly set up his computer and put his gamertag on his shirt. He looked around to see who all were present at the venue. He instantly spotted his idol: the one and only Carl Maxx. He was dressed in a formal suit and had a badge on his shirt that said ‘7-time Moonlight Mash Champion’.

Next to Mark was a guy whose gamer tag said ‘Nick the Brick’.

Suddenly, a booming voice came out of the speakers. It said, “Dear contestants, the competition is about to begin. Let me briefly tell you the rules and how this is going to work. This competition will play a different game mode than usual. There will be 3 events. Let’s start with level one. In this level, you will be divided into 5 teams. Each team must destroy monsters in a set amount of time. The 2 teams with the least amount of monsters killed shall be eliminated. Good Luck!”

The competition started. Mark’s team was full of good players who were pretty strong (in the game). Mark’s team started shredding through the waves of monsters and were practically in the clear. Mark glanced at the leaderboards and saw that his team was second, and first was Carl Maxx’s team. They had a huge lead compared to everyone else.

Mark’s team easily won the first round in second place. Then, the same voice as before started blaring from the speakers. “Congratulations to all who qualified for the next level. Round two is quite simple. It’s a 2 team death match. The team with the most deaths will lose. Prepare for” Suddenly, the voice became high-pitched, “DEATH. I WILL FEAST ON ALL OF-” The voice reverted to normal “Let’s begin!”

Everyone broke into murmurs. Was there a virus in the system?

Then, the second round started. This time, Mark had Carl Maxx on his team. Mark's team was easily going to win. After only 2 minutes in, Mark’s team was winning 12-3!

Mark just couldn’t stop thinking about what the bugged voice had said to the speaker. Death? A feast?

The second round ended. The speaker then blared again, “Good job to the winners! Now only 12 people remain. The final round is a pure free-for-all. Good Luck!”

The round started. Mark eliminated two people easily and continued looking when suddenly everyone’s screens turned into a shade of red and sucked the players into the system.

Mark looked around. He was holding a weapon. Everyone in the game was confused. Suddenly, Mark spotted Carl Maxx and shot him twice. Suddenly, Carl transformed into a huge red monster with 2 million health points. Was this the end?

Then, lots of players came to the monster and looked at the beast in terror. 2 million health points was way too much. The average melee weapon did 10 damage! It would be impossible to kill it!

Mark then looked around for any other way to kill it. Suddenly, he got an idea: The Jokima Nuke. The Jokima Nuke was hidden in a cave, and many players tried to find it but failed. But Mark had a brilliant idea. He shouted to all of the players, “EVERYONE! FOLLOW ME! WE ARE GOING TO THE CAVE OF THE UNDEAD!” Everyone was unsure about it, but they decided to do so.

The monster, realizing that everyone was running to the cave, chased them. After about 7 minutes, they made it to the cave. Mark, after years of observing this cave, knew that there were monsters and skeletons in the cave who would self-destruct the cave. So Mark decided that they could lure the monster inside the cave, escape, and make the skeletons and monster destroy the cave, which would also trigger the Jokima Nuke which was hidden somewhere inside the cave.

Was it going to work?
