"Being a woman is not easy. Yet, a woman is the embodiment of strength, love, care, gentleness, and power. She carries immense responsibility, and when needed, she is fierce."
Women are mothers, daughters, professionals, partners, leaders and much more. Being a woman is not easy, and achieving your dreams as a woman is even more challenging. From the moment she dares to dream, obstacles begin to appear along her path but still she rises...
From the moment a woman is born, she enters a world where she is surrounded by love, care, strength, power, duty, responsibility, work, and pain and the one who brings her into this world is a woman herself. A mother who endures immense pain to give birth. Yet, in that very moment, when a child is born regardless of gender all the mother’s pain fades away, replaced by the joy of becoming a mother. It is not just the birth of a child, but also the rebirth of a woman as a Mother.
In the past, the birth of a girl was often met with sorrow or even violence; many girls were killed simply because they were born female. But over time, society has changed. Today, people celebrate the birth of a baby girl, calling her the embodiment of Goddess Lakshmi, a symbol of prosperity and happiness. However, not all parts of the world or even all families have adopted this mindset. There are still places where the birth of a girl is seen as a burden. The truth remains: being a woman is not easy. From birth to death, her journey is filled with challenges.
Though times have changed and people have become more modern and respectful toward women, true change in mindset is still lacking. Many still carry old beliefs and expectations, especially when it comes to gender roles.
Women today are dreaming bigger and daring to achieve their goals. They are entering the professional world, breaking barriers, and achieving success but despite all this progress, their journey remains difficult, even in this era of so-called gender equality, the reality often tells a different story.
Take, for example, the life of a working woman. While she contributes professionally just like a man, her responsibilities don’t end at work. When she returns home, she is still expected to cook, clean, and care for her family, duties often considered “a woman’s work.” In contrast, when a man returns home from work, he is typically allowed to rest.
A housewife’s work is confined to the home, which is itself a full-time job but when a woman steps out to build her career, her responsibilities increase rather than decrease. Even if she hires a maid to assist with household chores, there are many duties that society still expects only her to fulfil. This expectation stems from the outdated belief that homemaking is solely a woman’s responsibility.
True gender equality will come only when these beliefs change. If boys are raised to learn and share household responsibilities just like girls then both men and women can stand as equals. If a mother teaches her son the same skills she teaches her daughter, such as cooking, cleaning, and caring for the home, the idea of equality will become a reality.
It is also important to acknowledge that some differences between men and women are natural and should be respected. Women are often more emotionally sensitive, nurturing, and understanding, while men may be physically stronger or emotionally different. These differences do not make one gender superior to the other. Instead, they show that each brings unique strengths to the world. If we begin to accept and respect these natural differences while correcting the societal imbalances, we can achieve true gender equality not by erasing the differences, but by embracing them with fairness and mutual respect.
Not only in humans, but also in animals, a female is a mother, nurturing, loving, and caring for her young. She will go hungry herself, but make sure her child is fed. She teaches them how to fly, if she is a bird, or how to eat, survive, and protect themselves. A woman is a woman, whether in human form or as an animal; her essence remains the same.
In today's world, not everyone holds a negative mindset about girls. Many families from villages are now sending their daughters to big cities to study and chase their dreams. This is a progressive and positive change. However, while many girls are using this opportunity to achieve their goals and make their parents proud, some are unfortunately misusing the freedom they are given. Instead of focusing on education and ambition, they engage in distractions such as parties, affairs, substance abuse, and irresponsible behaviour. As a result, their actions create mistrust and fear among parents. These few examples lead parents to become stricter and more controlling, which ends up hurting the girls who are genuinely committed to their goals. These innocent girls suffer restrictions and are not given the freedom they deserve because of the mistakes of others.
Similarly, in marriage, there are cases where some women, under the pretence of building a career, become unfaithful to their husbands. Some even get involved in extramarital affairs or plan violent actions against their spouses. While such incidents are rare, they are enough to create a perception of distrust. Because of the actions of a few, many sincere, loyal women face suspicion and disrespect from their husbands, especially when they work outside or interact with male colleagues.
It’s important to acknowledge that many women successfully manage their careers while also fulfilling their responsibilities as daughters, wives, mothers, and sisters. These women are role models, showing that it is possible to balance personal and professional life with dignity and integrity.
However, some women choose to ignore their familial responsibilities in the name of independence or career, especially the deep emotional and nurturing role of a mother, which is unique and irreplaceable. No one else can truly offer a mother's love, care, and emotional support the way she can. When these responsibilities are neglected, it does not just affect the immediate family but it shakes the foundation of society.
We must celebrate and support women who achieve great things while remaining grounded in their values and responsibilities but we must also recognize the harm caused when this balance is lost. A woman can either be a guiding light for society or, when she betrays her core roles, unintentionally cause damage that affects the trust and respect of others.
Therefore, it is important for society to make distinctions not to judge all women by the mistakes of a few, but also not to ignore the impact of those mistakes. A woman is the beginning of life and society, if we fail to uphold and support the values that make her strong and nurturing, we risk weakening the very foundation of humanity.
"When women harm other women, they are, in a way, destroying the essence of womanhood. If the true spirit of a woman is lost, society itself will begin to collapse because a woman is the foundation and beginning of the world." It would be an injustice and unfair to innocent women, who are doing nothing wrong.
In society, a woman should be known for her good deeds, not for her mistakes. She should choose to develop a strong and positive character, not a negative one.
But at the same time, when a woman makes a mistake, society is quick to judge all women based on her actions. However, in the past, when women were subjected to extreme injustices like being forced to commit sati, or having their heads shaved after their husband’s death, society remained mostly silent and did not speak out against those wrongs. What I want to say is that when serious injustices were happening to women, there was little reaction from society but when a single woman makes a mistake, the same society reacts strongly and criticizes all women. This double standard is unfair and not right.
Transforming Society through the Strength of Woman - Shaping the better World
If all women begin to make the right choices and stop doing what they shouldn’t, then each woman would become an ideal and a role model for others and if all women become like this, men too will be influenced to become better because they would have no other option but to adapt to the noble and positive environment around them.
People naturally start reflecting the atmosphere they are surrounded by.
I remember a lesson from my school days, where our teachers told us:
A drop of water from the Swati Nakshatra becomes a pearl when it falls into an oyster, becomes poison when it falls into a snake’s mouth, turns into camphor when it lands on a banana leaf, and becomes holy water when it touches the feet of a guru.
This proverb teaches us that a person's identity and their outcomes are deeply influenced by the company they keep and what they absorb just like that same drop of water takes on completely different forms depending on where it falls.
If all women and men become kind and great, then we will truly respect our mothers, the ones who gave birth to us and brought us into this world. In this way, we will also genuinely respect God, the Earth, and the entire world. As a result, the world will become a better place to live in, in the truest sense.
