The enticing Konkan region expands throughout the western coasts of Maharashtra, Goa and Karnataka. It is edged by the Western Ghats mountain range, the Great Sahyadri's in the east and the Arabian Sea in the west. At the western side, the Konkan region has coastal length about 720 kilometres. Agriculture pattern of the main Konkan Region shows that, as a major crop 39% of the cultivated area is under rice. Nagali is the (Nachani) second important crop. Samoa Rice (Vari) is a minor nut millet grown on the slopes, pulses like Lima beans (Pawate), Long beans (Chavali and Mung), etc. grown on residual moisture. Along with this, they also initiated and practiced the processing of fruits, vegetables, herbal and medicinal plants and the farmers are exploring with more and more cultivation ideas.

Though travelling to Konkan by road is an excellent pleasure, Konkan Railway is one of the attractions everyone should experience while entering Konkan. The most fascinating part of travelling to Konkan are ‘The Konkan Railways’. So, if you have ever travelled by train along the Konkan waterfront, you would know how glorious this place is. But The distinct part is that the railway was built in order to cater to the longstanding demand for a railway line providing cheap and fast mode of transport through the Konkan region. It is the biggest railway construction endeavour of independent India. And it was constructed because the Konkan region holds a lot of primacy in many economical aspects compare to other states. The population of this region is 28.6 million.

If it were a state, it would rank 15 (of 28 states) by population, with more people than among others Punjab, Haryana, Chhattisgarh and even Jammu and Kashmir. The Gross Domestic Product i.e. GDP of Konkan region is INR 373,959 crore ($61.8 billion) accounts for 41% of Maharashtra’s entire GDP. It ranks alongside countries like Cuba and have a GDP more than neighbouring Sri Lanka. The region’s capital, Mumbai is a home to India’s financial, banking and entertainment industries and the state’s richest district.

As Konkan is prosperous in hereditary, culture, and well-preserved natural terrains, contributing a legion of experiences for a diverse segment of tourists across region.
