Celebrities around the world are always under the public eye and everything they do is constantly judged. They have to be flawless from head to toe and behave well to be role models for the rest of the world. These celebrities are surrounded by crowding fans, flashing cameras and on the top, their life is all over the tabloids. However, sometimes they also have to act happy and pleased even if their world is falling apart, and the price they have to pay for that is quite high. Britney Spears is one such international star who has been in this situation for a very long time.

Britney is a famous pop star, singer, songwriter, dancer, and actress. The Princess of Pop is often recognized for inspiring the return of teen pop during the late 1900s and early 2000s. This legendary pop star is lately dealing with immense issues of conservatorship, and now she has told the world about her terrible experience. Britney Spears virtually went before a court recently to talk publicly for the first time about the conservatorship. The conservatorships are court-ordered arrangements that are typically reserved for the most extreme cases, in which, a person incapable to care for themselves or their basic needs, such as elderly people with mental or physical issues are settled under the authorized charge of another person.

To support the pop star in her court battle, her massive fan base is running a Free Britney Movement to grant her autonomy from her ongoing conservatorship. Free Britney Movement advocates ending the conservatorship of Britney Spears. This movement believes that, for almost 13 years, singer Britney Spears has been denied her basic music rights under a legal tool reserved for individuals that generate millions of dollars in revenue for her team. And despite gathering in millions of dollars through record-breaking albums and tours, Britney was not authorized to have control of her own credit cards, had to seek her father’s permission for the most basic of decisions, like repainting her kitchen cabinets, and she was not even permitted to make new friends without him signing off first.

Under the United States law, a conservatorship is the appointment of a protector or a guardian by a judge to manage the financial affairs or daily life of another person due to old age or any physical or mental limitations. And pop star Britney Spears was put under conservatorship following her very public breakdown in 2008. Following a year of apparently unusual behavior, such as shaving her head and attacking a media person’s car with an umbrella. She was further put under a 5150 hold, in a psychiatric hospital for a mental health evaluation. Her father, James Spears, petitioned the US court for a temporary conservatorship in 2008, as Britney was in the middle of a major mental health crisis as a result of overwhelming media attention, rumors about her personal life, and a huge custody battle for her two sons.

Britney Spears’s father was her conservator for a specific time period, and he controlled almost every aspect of Britney’s life for almost 13 years. A conservator of the person cares for and protects a person when the judge decides that the person cannot do it. The conservator is responsible for making sure that the person has proper food, clothing, shelter, and health care.

During her court hearing, Britney’s rage over her condition was evident, and her tone bluntly compared with the often-sweet persona she presents on her social media account, which is awash with fluffy kittens, roses, and dance routines. Britney appeared to be all too informed of this mistake, and she said, “It is my wish and dream for all of this to end. I want my life back”. Britney has also claimed in the hearing that “I have an IUS in my body right now that won’t let me have a baby and my conservators won’t let me go to the doctor to take it out”. Additionally, she said, “After I have told the whole world I am ok, it’s a lie. I am not happy, I can’t sleep, I am depressed, I cry every day”. She also noted that she did not understand why she was restricted by a conservatorship when she is working, and she can manage her finances on her own.

Britney Spears further said that her conservatorship is abusive. She requested the court to end the conservatorship without being judged like before. She additionally claimed that her conservators are interring with her freedom to determine whether to have more children. Britney would like to be able to sue her family over the position they have left her in, and said that her lawyer, whom she did not choose for herself, never told her that she was able to petition to terminate the conservatorship. According to The Times, her father makes $16,000 per month as a salary for being Britney’s conservator, which is twice the monthly allowance she’s given, and he also gets a cut from her world tours.

Britney Spears’s hearing has been a long-awaited justification that her devoted fanbase has been waiting for. In the recent hearing, she was opposed to her once-divided father’s affirming control over the conservatorship. But despite her condition, a judge concluded that her father was best suited to take the case. And as Britney has dealt with the court for the conservatorship, her fans are now holding the Free Britney Movement all over the world.

Only in recent years, Britney’s troubles have become more publicly known. And the fact that she was living such a repressed life was not really in public familiarity until a string of unusual social media posts sent warning bells ringing among her fans, and a documentary was made on her conservatorship. The tragic backstory behind Britney’s lavish lifestyle is an example of the celebrities living a lavish life and still suffering from a lot of traumas and trying hard to escape it.
