Authentic stories are being loved by the Indian audience, and thus Bollywood is offering more and more biopics nowadays. And most of the biopics which are critically acclaimed become the flavor of the season. At the time when Independence Day is near, an upcoming biographical war film based on the warriors of Kargil is making a huge buzz. Shershaah is that upcoming Hindi-language film directed by Vishnuvardhan, written by Sandeep Srivastava, and co-produced by Karan Johar. This film will portray the life journey of Param Vir Chakra awardee and army captain Vikram Batra.

Shershaah stars Siddharth Malhotra in a dual role, as Batra and his twin brother Vishal, and Kiara Advani represents the role of Dimple Cheema in the biopic. The actors are artistically tested in the biopic because they have to be true to the real-life character and to the period to which it belongs and they likewise cannot lean on fiction and invention. Presently, this upcoming biographical war film is based on some real-life heroic incidents of Captain Vikram Batra’s life.

Shershaah is a big-budget movie, and it will be releasing on 12 August on the OTT platform. Earlier, Shershaah was scheduled to release theatrically on 3 July 2020, but it was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. And in February 2021, the new release date of the film was announced as 2 July 2021. However, the film was postponed again, and now it is finally releasing on 12 August 2021 on Amazon Prime video

The film audience has become more captive and now it looks for the precision of the real story in the film. The title Shershaah draws inspiration from the fact that captain Vikram Batra was often referred to as Shershaah in his time. And Dimple Cheema, whose character is being played by Kiara Advani, was Captain Batra’s best friend and fiancée. In the trailer of the film, they have pointed that when Dimple told him to be cautious during the war, Captain Batra’s parting words were,

“I will either come back after raising the Indian flag in victory or return wrapped in it. But I will come back for sure”.

Several similar events and conversations happened in real life as well. And this film will be centering on all such brave and bold experiences of Vikram Batra. In real life, this Kargil hero led some of the most difficult operations in mountain warfare in Indian war history. He volunteered to lead another battle for point 4875 at a height of 18,000 feet. He died battling Pakistani troops during the Kargil War in 1999 when he was just 24. Late Captain Batra was posthumously awarded the Param Vir Chakra, India’s highest gallantry award.

Recently, Vishal Batra, the real twin brother of Shershaah, said that it was his dream to make a film about his brother's life. Vishal Batra was speaking to Hindustan Times at the trailer launch of Shershaah, and there he said, “The dream of making a movie on Vikram began in 2015. When I met CDS Bipin Rawat sir, I told him that I wanted to make a movie and we would not be able to do it without the Army’s help”. While talking about his journey with the filmmakers, Vishal said, “I have been with them throughout the journey, for long. I now hope that the movie, Shershaah, and Vikram’s journey inspire the youth of the country to join Indian Army”. The audience is now expecting Shershaah to be as authentic as possible and not simply glorify a particular subject. And with the release of this film, the world will witness the bravery of Captain Vikram Batra.
