The annual observance of the National Energy Conservation Day is in full swing across India. Recognized on every December 14, this day serves as a reminder of the need for sustainable energy practices and the collective responsibility to combat climate change. Celebrated by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) under the Ministry of Power, National Energy Conservation Day aims to drive India toward a greener and more energy-efficient future.

National Energy Conservation Day 2023 celebrations are set to be particularly significant, with the honorable presence of the President of India Smt. Droupadi Murmu, at the central event in Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. As the nation gathers to celebrate this occasion, President Murmu is slated to address the audience and grant honors to the recipients of the National Energy Conservation Awards 2023, the National Energy Efficiency Innovation Awards 2023, and the National Painting Competition on Energy Conservation 2023. 

The Energy Conservation Awards, presented as part of the National Energy Conservation Day festivities have a remarkable response, with 516 applications received and 63 accolades distributed, including 20 first prizes, 16 second prizes, and 27 Certificates of Merit. The National Energy Conservation Awards recognize and commend the outstanding efforts of various industrial units in optimizing energy utilization and promoting conservation practices.

On this occasion, Union Minister for Power and New & Renewable Energy Shri R. K. Singh will add his insights, emphasizing the nation's commitment to sustainable energy practices. Joining him will be Union Minister of State for Power and Heavy Industries, Shri Krishan Pal, and Secretary, of Ministry of Power, Shri Pankaj Agarwal. This year's celebration also spotlights the achievements of institutions, industrial units, and establishments that have reduced energy consumption in recent years.

National Energy Conservation Day was formed around 1991 and now is a beacon for promoting energy conservation and sustainable practices. With the implementation of the Energy Conservation Act of 2001, discussions, conferences, and workshops have also become integral to the annual celebration on December 14. This day works as a gesture for responsible energy use and emphasizes the need for collective action to safeguard the planet.
