Every year, International Human Solidarity Day 2022 is marked on December 20 honouring unity in diversity. It functions to obtain the people of the world together to encourage human rights, social and economic development, and peace. The primary purpose of this day is to promote a culture of cooperation, equality, and social justice. International Human Solidarity Day acts as a reminder for all governments globally to respect their commitments to global agreements and consensus. Solidarity here refers to an understanding of shared interests and objectives that create a sense of unity and it also directs to the connections in a society that tie people together as one.

The day aims to raise public awareness of the value of solidarity and encourage debate on how to promote solidarity to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) including poverty eradication. The recent agenda of SDG is centered on people and the planet with human rights and supported by global partnerships determined to lift people out of poverty, hunger, disease, and other related issues. And thus, it will be assembled on a foundation of international cooperation and solidarity.

In December 2005, the General Assembly of the United Nations proclaimed that solidarity is one of the basic pillars of the association among people of the world in the 21st century. Through the creation of the World Solidarity Fund to end poverty and the declaration of International Human Solidarity Day, the idea of solidarity was propagated. The UN emphasized upon governments to uphold equality and social justice among people for the eradication of poverty and decided to celebrate the 20th of December of each year as International Human Solidarity Day.

The theme of International Human Solidarity Day 2022 is to raise awareness of the necessity of human solidarity in reducing economic and social issues. Nevertheless, the theme of International Human Solidarity Day does not particularly change every year, unlike many other yearly occasions. Around the world, similar events are held each year with debates over different social issues and educational programs. On International Human Solidarity Day, when nations represent their duties to different international agreements, citizens are invited to join in discussions about measures to promote solidarity. Along with sociable activities held on this day, there are other activities like providing medical support to people in need, active campaigns to ban land mines, helping those affected by natural calamities, promoting universal education, and more. Likewise, there is also a continuing attempt to create novel techniques to support the destitute regions and develop together for a better future.
