Technology in India is evolving at an amazingly fast rate. It has changed the way we communicate, pay our bills, and use other technical developments. And to observe and celebrate all these technological advancements that we are creating and using every day, the country observes National Technology Day. The theme for National Technology Day 2021 is “Science and Technology for a sustainable future”. This day majorly observes a landmark moment in India’s history, the Pokhran Nuclear Tests project. And this year, we mark the 30th National Technology Day and it is meant to celebrate the efforts of the brilliant scientists, engineers, and all other people related to technological developments in India. It is the day of celebrating the developments of technology in India and one of the biggest technological achievements in India was the Pokhran Nuclear Tests.

Every year, the National Technology Day is celebrated on May 11 to mark the anniversary of the Pokhran-II tests. On May 11, 1998, a series of five nuclear bomb explosions were conducted by India at the Pokhran Test Range. On that day, the Indian scientist successfully fired Operation Shakti Missile at the Indian Army’s Pokhran Test Range in Rajasthan, and it was the first among the five nuclear tests in Pokhran. This whole test was carried out under the supervision of a great aerospace engineer and late President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. And later, Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee declared India as a nuclear nation, becoming only the sixth nation to join the nuclear club. And while we celebrate these nuclear tests as National Technology Day, the technology itself is now evolving in a big way. It is no longer just another nuclear test, but also a way of life now. It has connected people, places helped communicate easily, and most importantly, it paved a way for improved efforts.

Keeping in mind the requirement of the hour to frame an all-inclusive design to track the progress, the Technology Development Board celebrates this day directing on the technical solutions towards the growth. To truly observe and celebrate National Technology Day, we should always do something that will create interest in science and technology through different activities which can inspire our young generation to take an interest in science and technology.

In recent years, we have seen stunning technological changes that have revolutionized the entire world. But in the past years, India has often seemed to be a bit of a relative dawdler among developing countries, particularly in terms of economic growth. However, what changed the IT revolution in India led to the Indian software industry being recognized as one of the most successful in the world today.

Till now, technology has created hundreds of thousands of tools and resources, making it possible to access any information literally at our fingertips. Even in the COVID-19 period, technology has been at the forefront of the battle against the pandemic. These important technologies include medical technologies, ultra-advanced technologies, and manufacturing that will prepare India for the uncertain post-covid time.

And with our nation under lockdown, the utilization of technology cannot be terminated easily. As the world changes to its new normal, numerous people will rethink and produce new technologies to connect skills that will support drive flexibility and make them arise with this new calamity much stronger. And as the developments in technology in India are rapidly rising, it is our responsibility to aware people about technology and science and usages of technology to make a simpler and modest daily life.
