Sometimes the hardest battles do not happen outside; they happen in your own mind. If you do not control your thoughts, then your own darkest thoughts will control you.

One of the best quotes I have ever come across myself, especially in my Wellness Life Coaching Career, is, “adjust your way of thinking and your life will transform.”

This is what made me sit with myself, meditate, and reflect on my transformation journey to not only better myself but to train efficiently so that I could become an effective Wellness Life Coach.

What does it mean to be Caged?

So many of us live our years reacting from old wounds, old stories, and old beliefs that are not ours to continue to carry. We wake up, and before the day starts, our minds are already spiraling out of control. We replay and rehash who hurt us, what went wrong, what we lack, what someone said, or just constantly wish how things were different.

However, wishing without tangible action is akin to riding a wooden horse, where there is no progress towards growth in productivity and sustainability.

When we say one is caged, it is more than just by chains, but in the thoughts we do not question. It is therefore paramount to choose the uncaged path.

How can we train our minds to break free from the cages that have enslaved us?

In healing, we learn that our minds are the first homes we have to clean. Relearning is to understand that we must rewrite the words we tell ourselves. It is through this transformation that we are reminded that our outside world/circumstances only change when our inside world/internal thoughts shift first.

We do not need a perfect life to feel better; we just need better thoughts that will lead us to make better choices one step at a time. Rossy Maks, Africa's Leading Ladies Contributor & Fitness Enthusiast.

We must therefore guide our minds, for our thoughts are sacred. Choose thoughts that empower you, not those that will cage you. Speak to yourself the way you wish life would speak to you.

Your mind is the first place you break free before your life follows you. Grow, rewire, and step into a new version of yourself one thought at a time.

The Okiek Proverb from Kenya states that, “When the blanket is short, you must sleep with bended legs.”

It means that you must make the best of what you have. You must adjust, adapt, and rise.

Apson Commerce Ltd, an Outdoor Advertising Agency in Nairobi, Kenya, is a classic example of how a Leadership built on taking ownership and accountability can be set up to thrive and create its own niche in the currently existing saturated market.

Rispah Kour, who is the Managing Director, faced what most entrepreneurs go through in business: a suddenly cancelled tender that led to bankruptcy. Job losses, redundancies, and the eventual closing down of the agency for a while took a heavy toll on Rispah.

She had many questions as to why their major corporate client pulled the plug in favor of a rival agency. For months, she grieved and shut off the whole world until she met a transition Coach, Nils Welham, who unlocked in her the belief she had held on far too long. She had always followed the normal conventional path in business and not rocked the boat. But none of her methods eventually aligned to keep on fueling her purpose, and she sleepwalked through her own company's collapse.

With Coach Nils, there was an awakening and the thought that there is still more that can be done. This shift made her realise her vision was still valid and that she had to stop sitting on the fence. Her initial failure and inadequacy were a blessing in disguise that gave her the strength to reinvent herself.

The journey of self-exploration gave way to research on newer and better models of running a business. She was able to pool back resources and invest in high-level IT to keep abreast in the world of Advertising and Marketing. She enrolled in short courses and hired young technology-savvy individuals, as well as the right persons suited for the various job designations that the advertising world required. The latest equipment was also part of the new package. They could now pitch for business and fairly compete with their peers. Had she not leaped, she would not have achieved her true potential.

Indeed, everyone has a true gift that is just aching to be shared, and when this happens, the world will dramatically change for the better.

Mehmet Murat Ildan of Goodreads:

“A path is only difficult when you see it and demotivate yourself by thinking that it is difficult. Only you can destroy your own determination with your own fears. It is not the difficulty of the paths that blocks your way, but your weakness.”

Breaking away from the uncaged path with limited resources/knowledge to manoeuvre

It is not the case that we will have everything figured out. We will not always have all the resources, the support, the clarity, or the perfect timing. Some days will always definitely feel like, indeed, life gave us that shortest blanket, and with it we must survive.

The uncaged Path is not about waiting for the blanket to grow.

It is about learning to bend without breaking. It is about using what we have at our disposal, no matter how small or imperfect. It is showing up no matter how tired the body is. It has a stubborn heart that refuses to give up.

Healing is not glamorous, and the learning will most definitely hurt. You will be humbled to relearn, and the transformation will stretch you beyond what is considered your normal capabilities.

However, you must choose to try again as you progress to becoming the best version of yourself you have constantly prayed for.
