Gujarat has been a witness of a literally strange thing which made people speechless. It started at the beginning of August 2026, when an 18-foot-deep well on a farm in a village named Virparda in Morbi district, Gujarat, had been continuously rippling just like huge ocean waves; this instilled fear in some, while others were overwhelmed with excitement.

Since August 2, a farmer, Pranjivanbhai Sadariya, found water spilling over its edge. It was shaking continuously, though in the beginning the residents thought it could be linked to an earthquake. According to Pranjivanbhai, this weird activity started on 2nd August, just after 3 months the well was built, when he arrived at his farm on Sunday, the water of the well was spilling over the edge, and it was continuing.

Though the well is only three months old, and oddly, other nearby wells have stayed completely still, which created more curiosity among the people. As usual, videos went viral quickly on social media, which naturally drew crowds to the place, and people gathered there to witness the enigmatic experience.

The local residents also said that the water surface was upset on both Sunday and Monday, and the wave slightly stopped on Tuesday, then again started on Wednesday and Thursday, which literally made the well more mysterious. This unusual activity normally attracted people from the nearby villages, and not only them, but the motorists travelling along the nearby highway also stopped to visit the well. Mostly recorded videos on their phones and posting them online. Looking with wonder, some said it is just a miracle, while others said it is definitely a scientific phenomenon and there is surely a valid reason behind the strange movement of the water.

As the rumours spread and visitors came repeatedly to the area, the officials told them not to spread false news and that it is the effect of a natural geological process.

Also, the District geologist J S Vadher said that the primary observation does not show any earthquake-related problem. The officials also communicated with the Institute of Seismological Research (ISR) in Gandhinagar, which again clarified that there is no active fault line beneath that specific area.

The officials ruled out any connection between the earthquake or any seismic activity and this case, and confirmed that there is no earthquake activity or fault lines nearby and no connection to the Arabian Sea tides. The geologists said that the phenomenon may be a “well seiche”, which is caused by heavy monsoon rainfall filling underground water sources and releasing trapped air from rocks, which created waves in the well. Naturally, if it were due to an earthquake, then other well waters would also move. The scientific team and geologists are investigating the matter further, and authorities have barricaded the area and told people not to spread rumours.

According to the officials, the recent heavy rainfall in the upstream areas might have significantly increased the groundwater recharge. So as the water moves into the rocks underground, it can push and squeeze trapped air through small cracks and spaces in the rocks. It was due to groundwater recharge after heavy rain, not the seismic activity.

The Morbi District Collector Swapnil Khare also said that they have informed the Gujarat government about this matter & soon a scientific team from Gandhinagar will carry out a detailed study. He also added that the team will visit the area for further investigation as soon as possible.

For common people, incidents like this, be it natural or supernatural, are literally overwhelming and at the same time create fear in the mind. And in this case, this is not a simple phenomenon that can be easily ignored by anyone. Whatever the reason is, it is not directly human-made, so it is quite normal for people to get overexcited and spread rumours about the well.

While the primary examination says it is groundwater recharge as the most probable reason, the authorities said that the actual cause behind this strange wave will only be confirmed once the experts complete their analysis and a final report is given.

So till that time, this mystery well will continue to mesmerise the people, the passersby and others outside the village, making the calm village of Morbi into a tourist place. Nobody knows until when the waves will continue, but whenever they do, this well will definitely be and continue to stay a small magical well, which will continue to attract the visitors again and again.

Nature has numerous ways to fascinate people with its unique and strange events, and as usual, humans and other animals are spellbound to see its beauty. Even nobody can imagine what more is waiting for them in the nature’s world.
