Independent in 1945, India is said to be a country with the world's largest democracy, with its own constitution, jurisdiction, and people. A constitution which promises justice, dignity, freedom and liberty to every citizen living here. India was ruled by Britishers for around 190 years under their jurisdiction but when India got its independence, they made their own rights and laws; laws for women , laws against crime , laws against violence , laws to uphold human rights and what all can you think of. But the sad part comes here ; these laws are done and started by a paperwork , until and unless any law is not stated on the paper with all the necessary signatures , it is not considered a law because that is how we have made India to work , only through paperwork but paperwork cannot help in giving justice to criminals who rape a 5 year toddler , paperwork can not help in punishing those criminals who did robbery and killed the old age people in their own house , paperwork can not help in giving justice to anyone. The law is only powerful when it comes out of this paperwork and enters real life. These all can be done through the will in people , living in this democratic country, through the intentions of people who think that every one who has gone through a crime or anything deserves justice and is allowed to live openly without any fear.

But the problem is not that people are not allowed or able to do this ; the only reason this is because they lack the will , the intentions , the action and the accountability. But why is this happening ? why people lack this in our India ?

The answer is simple , the issue lies between what is written and what is actually done. There are end number of laws passed for every small thing but if the victim who has gone through the crime or has experienced some kind of mistreatment is only scared of reporting it , if the reporting is done in the nearby police stations but the officers are only treating the crime as nut , if investigations are delayed and the most important , if the court takes years and years to decide the punishment , then the law becomes weak.

The famous yet saddest crime of all times in India is said to be “ Nirbhaya case” which happened in 2012 , where a girl was brutally gang rapped and was left to die on roads. For one year all the Indians took their voices in there hands and spoke up for her justice but after one year ? no one was their to support her or people took the case as a normal rape case and left it , but her mother fought for 7 years for her to get justice and for the criminals to get punished. She ran daily from one court to another for 7 years. Can you imagine , how sad is this thing that the crime which took place in 2012 , was finally got closed in the year 2020 , 7 years of struggle , but for what ? to find out that is this rape really happened or to see if the laws are made for this or are they printed on the paper ?

If something is started it has to be supported by some great assets to led it to enforcement , and one of the greatest and biggest asset to be said for a country are the people who live their. Nobody can ever stop human power or what we call “JANTA KI AAWAZ”. If the people come together and stand against something , no paperwork , no politics and no government can stop them , that power is given to people living in India. but the lack of will leads to downfall of all this.

But why do we need will so strongly in humans ?

A will refers to collective determination in people. Everything , every intention , accountability , seriousness , collectively. This will helps and ensures that the victims are not scared to file any complaint against anyone , it ensures honest enforcement , it ensures social awareness , it ensures speedy justice and what else you can think of…but here also come another side or another part of this , people also need to stop demotivating victims by saying lines like : it is a shame telling or complaining to police ; don’t make it a big issue ; nothing is going to happen etc. this mindset need to be changed because this is also one of the reason behind lack of will , the mindset the demotivation which comes from our people only. This need to be stopped and changed.

India has the laws , but it India also lacks the will is not only a simple line but a very hard truth. It tells and reminds us that a country can make as many laws for their own people but if they are not able to come out of paper work and help people in real lives , nothing is going to change. What India need now is to help victims come out and express themselves , not be scared of anything because ,

A law that is not lived is normally a sentence on paper.
