Sarosh Dastoor, a 75- to 76-year-old person, stays in a nearby residence, known in his community for cleanliness. He and his wife, Radhika S Dastoor, an old lady of 72 years old, went out for an evening walk near Jupiter Hospital. When he noticed an Ola cab driver spitting around, he politely asked him to stop.
A 40- year old driver named Nishant Dhar Shukla. Instead of stopping, I flew into a rage. He stepped out of the vehicle, physically attacked the elderly man and threw him to the pavement, fracturing his leg. The driver even picked up a stone to strike the elderly man on the head, Police claimed. But the attack was caught on camera, and the viral footage sparked widespread anger. ShivSena workers located and confronted the driver, handing him over to the Vartak Nagar Police.

MNS – Maharashtra Navnirman Sena – a political party founded on March 9, 2006, by Raj Thackeray, focuses on regionalism, Marathi pride and the local ‘ Marathi Manus’ ideology. It was an issue between a Marathi and a non–Marathi. The elder person was Marathi, and the cab driver was non – Marathi.
The brutal assault on an elderly man by an OLA driver in Thane has turned political. While the two ShivSena factions united to track down the driver and thrash him. Now the MNS has jumped in and is targeting the OLA driver.
Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde himself took cognisance of the assault on the elderly man. He released a video directing the Thane commissioner to book a cab driver for attempted murder. “ If a person is brutally assaulted merely for pointing out that someone is littering, it will not be accepted at any cost. Shinde said Thane is the stronghold of Eknath Shinde.
The App cab driver, who was arrested for assaulting a senior citizen in Thane City, charged with attempted murder, was remanded to 14-day judicial custody by a court on Friday, June 12. He was arrested on charges on Brutal assaulting and injuring the elderly man. He was arrested on Thursday and produced in a magistrate's court. He was booked under BNS sections 109 ( attempt to murder) and 352 (intentional insult with intent to provide breach of peace). The victim is undergoing treatment in the local hospital.
The incident quickly became a topic of public discussion across Maharashtra. Many citizens expressed concern about the increasing number of cases involving road rage and violence in public places. Social media users shared the video quickly and widely demanded strict action against the accused. People argued that disagreements in public should be resolved through communication and legal means rather than physical violence.
The case also highlighted the importance of respecting senior citizens. Elderly people have contributed greatly to society through their experience, knowledge and service.
They deserve dignity, care and protection. Any act of violence against senior citizens not only harms the victim but also creates fear among other elderly individuals. Many social organisations and citizen groups condemned the attack and called for stricter measures to ensure the safety of senior citizens in public spaces.
Law enforcement authorities emphasised that no individual has the right to take the law into their own hands. If a disagreement occurs, people should seek help from the police or other authorities instead of resorting to violence. The police assured the public that a fair investigation would be conducted and that appropriate legal action would be taken based on the evidence available. The incident also serves as a reminder of the role of surveillance cameras and public awareness. Political leaders from different parties stressed the need to maintain peace and harmony in society.
They urged citizens not to allow such incidents to create divisions among communities or groups. Instead, they encouraged people to focus on mutual respect, tolerance, and responsible behaviour.
In conclusion, the Thane cab driver is not only a criminal case but also a lesson about civic responsibility, respect for senior citizens, and the importance of peaceful conflict resolution. A civilised society is built on respect, patience and adherence to the law, and these values should guide our actions in everyday life. In my opinion, this incident shows how important patience and self-control are in daily life.
Small disagreements can become serious when people act in anger. We should respect senior citizens and solve problems peacefully. Society becomes better when people treat each other with kindness and understanding.
