From Missing Report to Murder Case in Less than 24 Hours

At around 11 p.m. on May 22, 2026, one such family in the village of Benuariwas in the district of Jiwar, Greater Noida, received a phone call that they would never forget in their lifetimes. The police found the dead body of a person in an abandoned building in the neighbouring village called Rohi. In shock and disbelief, the couple hurried to the location where they discovered that the dead body belonged to their missing son Gopal, whom they had informed the police about just recently.

Gopal Sharma was an ordinary fifteen-year-old boy in all aspects of his life. Gopal belonged to a family in the village of Benuariwas who went to school and lived like any other boy of that village. At times he would visit a place in the village where the senior boys of his age would use hoca.

About a month and a half ago, before the commission of the crime, Gopal's grandmother knew what had transpired. She had absolutely no pity for those youths who affected her grandchild in such a manner. This is what a grandmother does anywhere around the world. However, those youths saw it as the most shameful act towards them. Even after Gopal refused to visit them, he was still at the heart of their minds.

About a month and a half after this event, Gopal decided to visit them again on May 21, 2026. The police revealed that those defendants forced Gopal to inhale hookah filled with tobacco. This caused him to die due to suffocation inside the same house. His remains were then buried in an abandoned house that was about four ki away from his home village.

With Gopal's failure to return to the house, the family became worried and thus decided to go to the Jiwar police station and lodge a complaint. After that, the police made search parties and began investigations. It was a late-night call. According to OpIndia news, "DCP Greater Noida tweeted officially on the X platform saying, 'The Jiwar Police received a complaint from the guardian about the disappearance of his 15-year-old son, Gopal, and after conducting a thorough search, we came across the information that the body of the child was lying in an abandoned house in the village Rohi.'"

On May 27, the outcome of the investigations conducted by the police was released, with arrests of three people identified as Naresh Mohit from the village of Rohi and Umesh Kumar from Bihar after committing an armed robbery and getting two of them wounded in their legs. With the arrest, the police also confiscated two unauthorised pistols from them. There was no mention of any injury in the autopsy report that helped in proving the death by internal bleeding because of excessive tobacco use.

There were riots in the whole village. The president of the Rashtriya Vipra Ekta Manch paid a visit to the grieving family and warned the police that in two days they had to take action on the culprits, or else there would be mass protests across the nation. He even insisted on personally intervening with the Prime Minister in the case. Gopal Sharma was neither killed due to some personal issue nor in a fight over something vital.

Gopal Sharma was killed because his grandmother was emotionally attached to him and always stood up for him. Just that makes the case more tragic, as he was “A child who died in the protection of words said about him.”
