Bullying remains a significant concern among Indian students, with reports indicating that almost 40% of the students are victims of various forms of bullying. Bullying remains one of the primary factors in several instances where a student commits suicide after encountering prolonged bullying.
New speculation and CCTV footage have resurfaced, drawing renewed attention concerning the tragic death of a Class IV student, Amaira Meena. This incident dates back to November 1, 2025, when Amaira Meena, a 9-year-old student of Neerja Modi School in Jaipur, committed suicide by jumping off the fourth floor of the school building.
According to Amaira’s parents, her case was not properly investigated, and potential loopholes remained. The new CCTV footage provides footage of the events of that day, which culminated in the unfortunate death of Amaira. This reopened the door for further investigation.
The events caught on CCTV prompt serious questions regarding discipline and the safety of the children on the school premises. It hints at the overlooked aspects and asks whether accountability was adequately addressed.
Amaira jumped off the building after futile attempts to complain about bullying to her class teacher. She was immediately taken to the hospital, where the doctors declared her dead.
In the beginning, the CCTV footage shows an ecstatic Amaira laughing and chatting with friends and even sharing golgappas with them.
The events that followed after 11 am made the situation more strange. According to the footage, a group of boys started bullying her by writing something obnoxious on the digital slates. This left Amaira uncomfortable and embarrassed, and she went up to her class teacher, Mrs Punita Sharma, for help. But the teacher completely neglected her and threatened to go back to her seat.
According to her parents, Amaira was sitting quietly without disturbing anyone. It started with the boy sitting in front of her, who kept staring at her. Despite telling him to look at the board, the boy continued gazing at her. After almost an hour of bullying, Amaira went up to the teacher with folded arms and begged her teacher to reprimand the boy. She complained five times, yet the teacher paid no heed to her.
The teacher repeatedly ignored her and instead was busy on her phone, scrolling through shopping websites. It has come to light that the teacher was found using digital slates in the classroom.
Following such negligence on the teacher's part, Amaira hurriedly left the classroom. But no one bothered to check up on her.
Shivani Meena, Amaira's mother, added that the class teacher was absolutely aloof after hearing the news of Amaira jumping off the building and proceeded to check notebooks.
According to sources, the teacher did not even know that a child was missing from her class. After almost an hour, she noticed that one of the students was missing from her class. She then informed the principal, and thereafter the authorities called up Amaira’s parents. The principal had informed them that their daughter was admitted to the hospital. However, on reaching the hospital, they found no one from the school, and the hospital authorities informed the family that they dropped the kid and left.
The family has expressed multiple accusations against the school and the teacher. Shivani Meena, Amaira’s mother, accused the teacher of not having controlled the situation; instead, she chose to remain silent. Moreover, the use of digital slates in the classroom shocked Amaira’s mother, who was unaware of such indiscipline.
Amaira's Father mentioned that similar cases of bullying were encountered by her earlier as well. The parents were disheartened and just wanted to know what had actually happened that day. They even appealed to the high court.
The family further stated that there were a lot of irregularities while filing the chargesheet and that charges were removed against the school principal, Indu Dubey, and founder, Saurabh Modi.
Vijay Meena, Amaira’s father, demanded an offence of abetment of suicide against the class teacher and confronted the school authorities. He further stated that three officers were commissioned to incorporate the relevant provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act, and to examine the parts which might have been overlooked during the preliminary investigation last year.
Amaira's mother urged strict action against bullying in the school and asked that more stringent measures should be brought in for ensuring child safety.
A prominent parents' association in Rajasthan, Sanyukt Abhibhavak Sangh, which advocates for student rights, attempted to probe into the matter.
On conducting a thorough investigation by the committee spokesperson Abhisekh Bittu, a large number of incongruencies were exposed related to appointments and qualifications of the teachers and regulatory norms.
Following this, he demanded a transparent enquiry into the overall functioning of the school management. Arvind Agarwal, President of the Sanyukt Abhibhavak Sangh, expressed concerns over accountability mechanisms.
