One person was arrested on Sunday while raids were underway to catch the main accused who allegedly raped the woman. The survivor was a 30-year-old mother of three. She also alleged that the village panchayat forced her to lick her own spit and told her that she was at fault when she had approached them to seek justice.
The survivor alleged that she was able to lodge the complaint only on Saturday since the rape and humiliation by the panchayat took place when her husband was outside the village, working as a labourer. She said that she was able to approach the police only after her husband returned home. When the rape had happened, the woman tried to flee through the window but ultimately failed to do so and got caught by the village; they then further proceeded to call the village panchayat.
Begusarai DSP ( headquarters) Nikhil Kumar said, “ An FIR has been registered based on the woman's complaint, and police are trying to verify the authenticity of the video circulating on social media. PTI could not independently verify the video. The Deputy Superintendent of Police Subodh Kumar and the SHO of the police station visited the spot of the alleged crime and started an investigation.
The survivor’s family has named three of the accused as Ram Babu Nishad, Suraj Kumar and Nitish Kumar, while the two others remain unidentified for now. The husband also alleged that the accused are known criminals residing in their area, who have already committed crimes like theft and other such offences.
The case has grown popular and gained widespread attention after the woman alleged that she was subjected to extreme brutality during the assault. The doctors and police later revealed that they recovered foreign objects during her treatment, leading investigators to examine additional aspects of the case.
