Kochi gave a standing ovation to Fire and Rescue Services personnel and civil defence volunteers who worked day in and day out for 12 days to extinguish the fire at the Brahmapuram waste treatment plant.

In his address, Devan Ramachandran, Judge of the Kerala High Court, praised the role of these firefighters and volunteers in saving the city from a situation of crisis.

City residents owed their lives to the team members who worked under extreme conditions in extinguishing the fire. The image of the team members carrying their team leader on their shoulders after successfully controlling the fierce fire conveyed the respect that had developed in the city residents for these noble souls.

Children from various city schools presented 'Thank You' cards and flowers to the firefighters. Justice Ramachandran presented a souvenir to J.S. Sujithkumar, Regional Fire Officer, Ernakulam.

B. Sandhya, Director General, Fire, and Rescue Services Department presented Anu Chandrasekhar, Divisional Warden of Civil Defence Volunteers again with a souvenir.

Dr. Srinivasa Kamath of the Indian Medical Association and Dr. Jinshed of the Ayurveda Medical Association of India handed over documents to the rescue camp on the organisation of a free medical camp.

Special masks were also presented to these firefighters. Documents for free-medical check-ups were also handed over to them on this occasion. The inspection that has to be carried out by the health department should go uninterrupted.

Time and again, fire outbreaks are seen. Although, the issue was managed timely this time but not always the circumstances are same. Proper institutional management, safety-tips, and precautionary measures shall always be in place.
