Transitions from traditional and conventional patterns of Hindu marriage and wedding system are being witnessed, at the same time, a Hyderabad-based group is trying to show the context and the hidden meanings of the Vedic hymns and chants through Kuchipudi, one of India's eight major classical dances from Andhra Pradesh. The group, Sri Nateshwari Foundation of Arts and Culture (SNFAC), recently performed in the NTR district after the death of Piratla Balasubrahmanyam, a former ISRO scientist who devised the rules and the forms of this inspired dance form.
Traditionalists claim that the media is like portraying the Vedic Hindu marriage which is the backbone of the family system in India largely in a negative manner. The institution of marriage is being regularly ridiculed by TV Shows and Movies.
We come to know that their program is somewhere inspired by the works of renowned Kuchipudi dancer, Shobha Naidu. Various 'dance revolutions' have been pointed out such as Chandalika against caste discrimination which reflected the truth of life in these performances. The program was started to perpetuate the tradition of the rich ancient heritage of India.
The work of Piratla Balasubrahmanyam formed the entire genre of this inspired artistry. The latter not only promised great research in areas of science and technology but also possessed immense knowledge of Hindu scriptures. He was also interested in literature and language and has been featured as an author in many Telugu works.
The most common form of marriage of all the Vedic marriage is the 'Brahma' marriage. After extensively studying the marriage types, Balasubrahmanyam published a manual for the new dance form. The new dance form amalgamated the rituals from the pre-wedding scenario to the ritual of 'Kanyadanam'. He has also tried to incorporate the meanings of hymns and metaphors associated with a wedding in the dance form's Tandava (movement and rhythm), Lasya (grace), and Nritya (expressional component). The dance form was first presented by SNFAC in Chennai in 2016 coincidentally at the time of Balasubrahmanyam's daughter. However, after his demise lately, they performed during the annual Brahmotsavam at Lakshmipati temple in Pedamuthevi village under Muvva mandal of NTR district in Andhra Pradesh. Pedamuthevi is reported to be the native village of Balasubrahmanyam.
The dance performance was appraised well. The performance gave the audience nostalgia from their own weddings. The event was sponsored by Ramanashree, wife of Balasubrahmanyam. Nivedita, a lead dancer is ready to spread dance form across all the States.
A poet and writer, Shalaka Raghunatha Sharma, who was in the audience remarked the Indian family system has still not crumbled because of the philosophy adopted from the Hindu scriptures. He remarked that the Indian marriage instead of the sacred feeling has converted into a contract akin to the Western Civilization. Indian society has marriage and family running close to each other. He also praised the late scientist for his contributions to the extensive study of the Hindu marriage system, methodology, and customs. He also interpreted the hymns and chants and infused magic and commentary to create this inspired dance form.
The dance form is being praised from all over. Reviving the ancient glorious past is reflecting the presence of consciousness in people.
