The President of India Droupadi Murmu conferred the Bharat Ratna Award to the BJP leader, who has formerly acted as Deputy Prime Minister LK Advani at his residence.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and former Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu were also present at the very occasion of this conferring award.

The visit to the residence of LK Advani was kept keeping in mind the ailing health of the leader.

The President also conferred the highest civilian award eariler to the former Prime Ministers of the country, Chaudhary Charan Singh and PV Narasimha Rao.

PM Modi regarded that the contribution of this veteran leader is significant extremely to the development of the country. His life has been of somebody that started from graas roots and later reached the pinnacle of his career. He distinguished himself as the Home Minister and I&B Minister and his Parliamentary interventions have been full of rich insights.

Advani was born in 1927 in Karachi, Pakistan. He has been the founding fathers of BJP and had been the longest serving member of the Party.

He completed almost a 30 years career - serving as Home Minister during Atal Bihari Vajpayee's rule and later served as the Deputy Prime Minister of the country.

Advani has been recognized as a man of utmost intelligence, high valued character development and constant support, he held for the country’s development.

Lal Krishna Advani was at the forefront of the Ram Mandir Movement and started a protest in 1990's to claim back the birthplace of Hindus.

LK Advani's Political Journey:

  • His Parliamentary career started in 1970's when he was elected to the Rajya Sabha. Later, in 1989, he contested his first Lok Sabha election defeating Mohini Giri.
  • In 1991, he contested from two respective constituencies from Gujarat and New Delhi and bagging victory in each of them.
  • Advani brought BJP to a stature of national importance when it raised voice for the Ram Janm Bhoomi event.
  • Advani was considered to be one of the hard-lined supporter of BJP but had to resign when his name came to be associated with the Hawala diaries.
  • Although he committed himself to the Rashtriya Swayam Sewak Sangh, but later after 2005, he faced a lot of criticism owing to the praises he made for former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mohammad Ali Jinnah during his visit to Pakistan then.
