As a historical development, the Supreme Court of India is all set to unveil the statue of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar on its premises on Constitution Day, that is, November 26.

This shall be followed by an event of celebration of Constitution Day at the Supreme Court with the President of India as Chief Guest.

The decision to install a statue of Dr. Ambedkar has come after a persistent demand by Ambedkarite lawyers and that was not the first time they did so.

While playing floral tributes to Dr. Ambedkar on his birth anniversary, the CJI said that the greatest tribute we can give to this great leader is by continuing the strand which he envisioned us to. Some senior advocates also pressed for the installation of Dr Ambedkar's statue in the Supreme Court promises.

Ambedkar is not only revered as the messiah of oppressed classes but also as the Father of the Indian Constitution and the first Law Minister of India.

The lawyers have also been demanding the Constitution of a caste sensitization committee in the Supreme Court. The committee would serve for the protection of lawyers belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.

The Ambedkarite lawyers have also been demanding the inclusion of Ambedkar Jayanti, 14th April as a 'Court Holiday' in the Supreme Court's calendar.

“It is the culmination of a decades-old struggle,” he added.

"Dr. Ambedkar’s statue on the court premises will serve as an inspiration to all lawyers, staff, and litigants from the downtrodden and marginalised communities,”

“We want to congratulate and express our gratitude to the CJI for taking this historical initiative,”

“It will be a symbol of the constitutional values and philosophy of this country,” he concluded.
