International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), the US-based international organisation has selected the anti-drug and illicit liquor campaign 'Nijaat' of Chhatisgarh police for 'Leadership in Crime Prevention' in the institutional category.
Earlier this year, the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D) which is an organisation of the Ministry of Home Affairs included the Nijaat (meaning Riddance or Liberation) campaign among the thirty-best smart-policing campaigns in the country.
The Chhatisgarh police launched the campaign under the leadership of the IPS officer Santosh Kumar Singh who made a clarion call with intensified efforts in districts of Korea, Rajnandgaon, and presently continuing in Korba.
The campaign had directives to act tough against drug peddlers and bootleggers and check the smuggling of drugs.
This singular campaign - 'Nijaat' witnessed remarkable results to achieve a drug-free society.
The drive also targets wiping out the abuse of illicit drugs, narcotics, and the trading of drugs.
After zero-tolerance action and mass awareness programmes, the Nijaat campaign gained national and international fame. In short, it's an action and awareness drive against narcotic and addictive substances.
People are getting inspired to leave the addiction and lead a normal life. People are being made aware by holding meetings, rallies, plays, writings, posters, banners, etc., in the district's towns and villages to promote the campaign. There is huge participation of people and various sections in the campaign.
Say, 'No to Drugs, Yes to Life.'
