With an aim to deliver legal literacy among the villagers, students of VR Law College in Nellore have been extending legal assistance through their organisation - Helping Organisation for People Empowerment (HOPE).

The organisation was established in February 2022 and has been visiting villages across the district using its own funds. They are also promoting awareness of various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Protection of Children and Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Campaigns to spread awareness about the penal provisions associated with kidnapping, domestic violence, dowry, death, murder, rash driving, theft, and robbery.

They also organise the planning of visits to various villages and also plan to hold a meeting with village heads for promoting awareness. The Secretary of the Organisation said, 'HOPE has 15 members who are supported by 50 others. All 15 students are students of legal studies. Legal literacy shall help the downtrodden in society. Blood donation camps and the distribution of food are also conducted.

Advocates are referred in legal matters and are asked to dispense their legal services in exchange for a nominal fee. Special emphasis has been laid on resolving land issues and dealing with the discrimination against the SC/STs in rural areas and education facilities are being extended in rural areas. Various group members are working in sync for the overall benefit of the organisation.

Issues of social exclusion and vulnerability are also discussed and people have imparted knowledge accordingly. This organisation shall also help to change the entire status quo.

Legal literature is as it is too complex to be comprehended. Hence, people should be made aware of this in lucid terms so that proper actions can be concentrated in the event of any sort of injustice or exploitation taking place.
