For almost over a century, there were some facts that were undercover. Likewise, with the State of Hyderabad (including today's Telangana, parts of Karnataka and Maharashtra) got actually independent after over 13 months of our country's independence.

The Governments of Karnataka and Maharashtra did recognize it but the Governments of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana did not give its due recognition.

History reveals that much of the government-sponsored books that were written in the past were written from a leftist perspective. Such philosophers somewhere erased the excesses of Nizam of Hyderabad in the religious domain and later converted it into a peasant Vs landlord movement. Sacrifices of the Hindu movements were largely ignored.

A few books were written in Marathi, Kannada, Telugu and a few in Hindi. In 2016, the first English book titled 'Liberation Struggle of Hyderabad - was released with some unknown pages. It was basically a translated version of a Hindi book written in the late 70s by Acharya Khanderao Kulkarni. The book was also released at the World Book Fair in Delhi in 2018.

In order, another book 'Nizam's Rule Unmasked, a translation of a Telugu book was published. Both the books got their invitation by Samvit Kendra, an academic centre. Accordingly, more writers started writing on this topic.

Between 2021-22, specific Sahitya Utsavs was conducted in Telangana on the same subject to build awareness among people. In 2023, events were held at Karnataka Uttar and Devagiri parts.

Copies of various books are converting themselves into movie adaptations. It is so delightful to observe that three books are now being made on the subject and that too in different genres. The first multi-lingual film was released on March 15th in Telugu, Hindi, Kannada, Tamil, and Malayalam.

Since 2014, social media awareness campaigns have been regularly launched on September 17th. Over the years, different people coming from different walks of life have joined the movement. Similarly, the content for re-creating the history was converged together from almost all the affected States.

In 2022-23, Naizam Vimukta Swantantra Amrutsavalu (celebration of 75 Years of Liberation) was celebrated with great pomp and show. A focused panel of discussion was launched for the same. Some freedom fighters especially those where they martyred themselves for the cause of the nation, their families were felicitated in many Nagars and Taluks. Door-to-door campaigns and programmes to make the whole event brimming with awareness were successful to some extent.

Lastly, the Government of India has finally given the due that September 17 deserves to be recorded in the history of India. This step shall go a long way in recognizing the unsayable sacrifices of the past. It is now being awaited that the State of Telangana shall also announce it as a State event.
