Climate change is one of the serious issues that stand before the world. It is affecting various aspects of our life - agriculture, industry, and society.

Today, we are here to discuss about the impact of climate change on the fragrance industry, a recent research by the International Fragrance Association (IFRA).

Climate change is manifesting itself through extreme weather events such as floods, storms, and droughts which have now become recurrent disrupting the biological space and ecosystems.

Fragrance industry that is deeply rooted in nature and agriculture is not immune to the impacts of climate change. The raw materials that are grown all over the world are dependent on strong ecosystems in a healthy and stable environment or they cannot flourish.

These climate change effects impact the supply chain or the supply of natural ingredients thus the fragrance industry weakening it's foundation structure.

The research though specific to the fragrance industry is nothing but a warning that sooner or later, the effects of climate change will creep into the elemental part of our lives.

Turbulent weather conditions have reduced flower harvests. Due to water scarcity, many areas are not even able to water the plants properly. The perfume industry can seek synthetic alternatives but the general response is not so appraised. The basic ingredients are not able to be sourced properly leading to the lack of these and the consumers deter from purchasing such products. Demand for organic materials is gaining trend all over.

Climate-smart farming tactics can help companies to source their ingredients from farmers that are adapting to the new realities.

Efforts to replicate the existing scents are already on the way. Synthetic alternatives aren't good for the environment either. These synthetics can contribute to pollution and be difficult to discard.

Production is getting impacted, prices are skyrocketing and major shortages are endangering the perfume industry. Several ingredients for personalized fragrances are jeopardized. Droughts and tropical storms also had dramatic consequences. It takes multiple years for a flower to bloom or survive. The labour challenges in the growth of it cannot be ignored either. The small independent perfumery houses are in much danger to the big brands which have a chance of getting devastated.
