As a story of remarkable perseverance, a young woman farmworker from Andhra Pradesh completed her PhD in Chemistry overcoming the hurdles in her way.

As a testament to hard work, this journey of Sake Bharathi from Nagulaguddam village stands apart.

Coming from a middle-class background, Bharathi faced the challenges such as being denied access to education and opportunities from a very young age. As the eldest of three siblings, she attended various government schools up to class XII.

Struck by financial difficulties, she was married off to her maternal uncle after she completed her XII and soon she became a mother.

Despite the circumstances thrown her way, she was determined to overcome the obstacles that came in her trajectory of academics.

With the aim of completing her dreams, Bharathi took up the role of agricultural labour while co-performing the roles of a mother as well as a student.

She pursued her degree and post-graduation in Chemistry from SSBN degree and PG College, Anantapur.

Adhering to a strict schedule, she used to wake up early before sunrise and finish her household chores and used to travel several miles by foot to catch a bus to her college. Encouraged by her teachers, she enrolled in a PhD programme at Sri Krishna Devraj University.

She expressed her gratitude towards her husband for supporting her. He understood her desire to continue her education and encouraged her throughout the journey.

She aspires to serve as a faculty in the University. She believes that education is the key impacter in society. She also did part-time work to financially support herself for her studies and scholarships of course played a pivotal role in her journey.

Her husband is extremely delighted at her wife's success.

At a time, when people have apprehensions about giving higher education to the females in society, examples here and there help to bust such stereotypes.
