Law as an arena has emerged a lot in the current times. From justice being pronounced initially by princes or kings to then shifting of power on the common citizenry and finally then to the professional class referred to as legal professionals. Therefore it can be deciphered that law as a profession was not widely prevalent in past times, whatever it existed was only as a means to provide justice to the people. Now if we look at the last 2-3 decades, it of course has captured the public eye while naming all professions. Courtroom advocacy, litigation practices, filing documents, and analyzing judgments have all been a crucial part of the profession. It has evolved so much not only in terms of refined and historical judgments pronounced that have shaped our country's legal forum but also in the burgeoning growth that comes along with it.
Present fascination among the young generation in pursuing law, increasing aspirants of law entrance examinations, and the rising number of advocates and law degree holders portray the emerging desire of the country's youth in this profession. Though the forms have changed specifically in the way it is practiced. The trend has shifted from longing to practice litigation and appear before the courts debating on important issues and defending one's clients to the strong desire to be a consultant or a legal advisor to corporate law firms. This liking generally exists due to handsome pay and the long gestation period for a litigating lawyer.
In India, the law is considered a noble and ethical profession. It has transformed over time to great levels in terms of the number of educated mindsets and the more furnished judicial process practiced in all courts, tribunals, and corporate firms. Although the current form possesses certain challenges in terms of the overburdened judiciary and long working hours still our lawyers have stood the test of time by not only acclimatizing themselves to new technologies and increasing demand but also in terms of improving their knowledge and satisfying the expectations of the citizens.
The future of this profession will inevitably be one of the highest reputed ones in India. The lawyers will have to work in close congruity with the changing needs and aspirations of society to build a strong legal framework in the country that fulfills the current demand.
