Chronic allergies… Not exactly anyone’s idea of fun, right? And who wants to pop pills their whole life? Not me. I’m about to share some straightforward solutions that helped me overcome chronic allergies.
These tips aren’t just for allergies, but they can also help you detox your body and give you clearer skin and much more. Ayurveda goes to the root of your problems. And trust me, you’re in for a surprise with some of these simple tips.
I took the time to sift through ancient wisdom and verify what truly works, and I’m here to share it with you.
Let’s rewind to my childhood when my life was a battleground against red rashes. It was like they had a daily competition to see who could torment me the most. These weird, shape-shifting bumps made me a spectacle, and they were terrible sleep interrupters. We visited countless doctors and tried heaps of medicines. But the relief was short-lived — those meds weren’t fixing the real problem.
So, I turned to Ayurveda, an ancient system that goes deep. It offered a ray of hope and a promise of real relief. I pored over ancient texts and consulted experts who knew their stuff. I took the best of what I found, tailored it to my needs, and embarked on a life-changing journey.
After getting an allergy test, my doctor gave me a straightforward directive — steer clear of foods that triggered my allergies. Mustard oil, dairy products, coconut oil (I couldn’t even use it as hair oil because it resulted in a bizarre inflammation on my face), and prawns were among the top offenders.
Whenever I indulged in something from the “danger list,” I reached for a pill. But let’s be clear, this wasn’t a cure; it was merely a temporary fix.
When I turned to Ayurveda, I received some new dietary guidelines. Ayurveda encouraged me to exclude certain vegetables from my menu, particularly ladyfinger, brinjal, taro, or any vegetable with stickiness.
Why? These foods can aggravate symptoms of skin problems. Even modern science agrees with the idea nowadays. Avoiding these allergy triggers was a crucial step in my journey towards lasting relief.
Simple Things to Incorporate in Your Daily Life
One of the most transformative habits I adopted on my Ayurvedic journey is a daily morning elixir. It’s a simple concoction that includes giloy juice (4 spoonfuls), wheatgrass juice (4 spoonfuls), Aloe Vera juice (4 spoonfuls), and turmeric juice (1 spoonful — fresh, if possible). Mix these with an equal amount of water and have them on an empty stomach every morning.
You’re probably familiar with the individual benefits of giloy, wheatgrass, turmeric, etc. But what’s incredible about this combination is that it balances the hot and cold properties of these ingredients, making it suitable for almost anyone. This elixir is a potent detoxifier, helping your body eliminate toxins at a fundamental level.
My apologies for the oversight. Let’s include that important information back into the article.
To combat my allergies effectively, I included two powerful Ayurvedic medicines in my daily regimen: Khadirarishta and Mahamanjisthadi Kwath. Here’s how I used them: Take 3 spoonfuls of both with an equal amount of water after waiting for 1.5 hours post-meal. Take it twice a day, sip by sip.
This Ayurvedic elixir is created through a natural fermentation process, incorporating herbal decoctions. It contains around 5–10% self-generated alcohol, often referred to as medicated wine. Khadirarishta draws its healing properties from various herbs, with Acacia catechu gum and bark being primary contributors.
Ancient Ayurvedic texts, like the “Sharangdhara Samhita,” detail the composition, preparation, therapeutic applications, and mode of action of Khadirarishta. Several studies have been conducted to demonstrate its efficacy.
Mahamanjisthadi Kwath, a classical Ayurvedic formulation, is renowned for its effectiveness in addressing various skin ailments and improving skin complexion. It contains over 40 medicinal herbs, including Manjishtha, Sariva, Nimba, Haridra, Khadir, Bibhitaki, Haritaki, and Amalaki. Mentioned primarily in Bhaishajya Ratnavali, you can find more information in Ayurved Sar Sangrah as well.
Research has shown its efficacy in treating conditions like Vitiligo, with one study revealing marked improvement in patients’ Vitiligo symptoms. Additionally, the antimicrobial properties of this formulation have been validated in another study, showing its ability to inhibit the growth of bacteria like Staphylococcus aureus, Candida albicans, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus epidermidis, and Escherichia coli.
If your allergy issue is persistent and deep-seated like mine, add Haridra Khand to your regimen. Take 1 spoonful with warm milk at night before bedtime.
In just one month of following the treatment plan, I experienced significant improvement in my allergies. However, it’s essential to remember that individual results may vary, and the effectiveness of Ayurvedic remedies can be influenced by your unique body and condition.
The morning remedy I shared can be continued over an extended period, but it’s advisable to take a one-week break from time to time. The comprehensive treatment plan, including Khadirarishta, Mahamanjisthadi Kwath, and Haridra Khand, can be followed for three months and then discontinued. Ayurveda often recommends these breaks to prevent your body from becoming overly dependent on any specific treatment, which could lead to adverse effects.
Now, please remember that this is my personal story, and I’m sharing my own experiences with you. I’m not making any claims; I simply want to emphasise that Ayurveda is a powerful and time-tested healing system. These 3000 years old remedies are based on an incredible understanding of the human body and its ailments. While Ayurvedic medicines are generally safe and effective, always seek guidance from a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner to ensure that you’re pursuing the best path to your well-being.
By sharing my journey, I hope to inspire others to explore the wonders of Ayurveda and experience the profound healing it can provide. Your health is a precious asset, and Ayurveda offers a holistic approach to nurturing it.
