We always love to drive. Those who know that feeling can understand it. We are not an expert in driving or even knows about it. But one thing in common among us is traveling. Public use to travels from here to there from all kinds of transportations. Every vehicle has its speed, and the one who drives can control it. But what is the one thing of automobiles that no one can dominate, and its side-effects come on all passengers? It's the headlight of vehicles. I know it can be on and off. Its harmful effects on others are uncontrollable.

A headlight is necessary for driving on roads. Despite that, it is a crucial side effect on human health, of which we are unaware.

Let's talk about how many kinds of lights and headlights.

They are Halogen, HID, LED, and Laser lights. Now, have a look at these lights in the form of headlights.

  • Halogen Lights: These lights are similar to household bulbs. These bulbs are in the headlights of automobiles for 50-year-old models. It reflects yellowish light, which produces more heat but less brightness on roads. It throws light till 100 meters. These lights consume 55 watts. 700-2000 lumen (lights emit per second) emits from it.
  • HID Lights: HID ( high intensity discharged) lights called Xenon lights. It is electrically charged and emits bluish-white light. Xenon is more expansive than halogen but has less heat and less brightness. It takes time to lighten up while driving. These lamps consist of 2 bulbs. It consumes 35 watts. It emits 2500- 3800 lumens. It throws light till 250 meters.
  • LED Lights: An electric current through a semiconductor will produce a light called LED, which is brighter and less heat generated. It emits white light. It consumes 30 watts. It emits 15000 lumens. It throws light till 300 meters.
  • Laser Lights: Three small blue lasers pointed at a set of mirrors. These mirrors focus the laser light into a lens filled with yellow phosphorus. Yellow phosphorus generated by the blue laser emits an intense white light. The white light shines onto a reflector that diffuses that white light forward, shining it out the front of the headlight. This reflection and diffusion of light creates a powerful beam of light. It consumes 20 watts. It emits 20000 lumens. It throws light till 600 meters.

History:

In the first mode of transportation, in place of headlights, kerosene lamps were lit up to travel at night. In motor vehicles in the position of headlights, there were glowing acetylene lamps fixed during the late 1890's and early 1900's. Sealed beam lamp worked in 1939. Sealed halogen lamps worked in 1960 in European countries. Later on, sealed beam lamps became popular in the USA around the 1970s. In 1983 came composite headlights. In 1990 came HID lights. LED headlights became accessible in 2004.

How headlights affect health:

Have you ever visualized your daily schedule? Those who stay at home feel much more relaxed and energetic every night, and those who travel from their workplaces or colleges won't experience relaxation at night. How many times have you noticed at the time of departure from your workplace? Have you decided what would you do after reaching home? When you arrive home, you can't behave like you planned, and you feel exhausted from having no fruitful conversations.

Have you found out the reason? Your reason would be we are doing our jobs. We are investing our energy in our workplaces.

Wrong because a housewife or homemaker invests the same energy or more being in the home. So what makes the difference is that driving? What about those who travel by cabs or buses?

The reason is still unimportant. Simply, it's the focus of bright headlights on your eyes.

Yes! This headlight is the main reason. It causes dullness in your body. You will feel lazy. It causes pain in your eyes and balls, it will cause headaches, you will feel irritated, you will avoid conversations, and will tire too much that you will not have good sound sleep. It proves that headlights create migraines for drivers due to facing too many headlights at night. It shows too much exposure to light on the eyes during the night creates a lack of sleep as the brain produces less melatonin hormone, which is essential for sound sleep.

Provoke road accidents:

Do you know that records and facts say 33% of road accidents happen directly because of headlight focus? It covers drunk and driving cases. It includes hit-and-run cases and many more. But the truth remains unhighlighted in the illumination of the headlight.

I think most accident happens because of headlights consciously/unconsciously. For example, in many movies, we have seen accident scenes. Remember, when in movies accident scenes come, everything goes blackout after the bright focus of the headlight. How headlights force drivers to commit road accidents at night. Have a look,

It has already been reported in Chandigarh (2016) that 75% of vehicles use blinding headlights at night on highways. Excessive exposure of the eyes in front of these headlights can cause vision issues also. Only 26 % of automobiles use low and high beams appropriately surveyed. Rest vehicles only travel with high beams, as most drivers don't care about it. Headlight road crashes/accidents impact 400 lives every day. Most of the trucks don't use dipped lights at night. Less educated truck and bus drivers may follow the rules properly of road safety while driving, but 5% won't. These high beams of glare forthcoming from opposite directions dazzle drivers' eyes and result in wrong judgment. In India (2015), Published by the Ministry of Road, transport and highways, 39% of road accidents occur from 6 pm to 6 am because of darkness and less control over traffic norms.

High beams work for drivers to see the road clearly at night. So you can imagine how bright it is. By misusing it how it results in adverse.

It risks for yourself. If you drive in fog or rain with continuous high beams, it could reflect by reducing visibility. If you can't turn the high beam off when a car approaches you, it will temporarily blind the driver. Hilly areas and their turns high beam glare can mislead you to understand the proper distance. It can cause collisions of vehicles at the turn.

Precautions for safety:

Frequently, I have observed that on city roads, not the highways, many drivers drive with high-beam lights, which creates a headache even when sitting on the backside. So firstly, drivers should not use high beams within the city as it is not required. Try to lower your beam if suddenly another vehicle comes in front of you to protect other's eyes and your visibility. Many years ago, headlights with black on top half portions use to paint. It controls the scattering of light and glare toward the sky and does not disturb the opposite driver's eyes. I think this law should go through the Government should be passed again.

One should avoid driving unnecessarily during darkness. In many families, members go in their different vehicles no matter toward the same destination. Stop this show-off of automobiles on roads without any urgency. The less the means of transport move on the road. It reduces exposure to the glares of headlights. According to law, low beams are allowed, and a high beam is mandatory for a few situations, as in the case of overtaking. Proper use of indicators accordingly is also a part of the headlights so as not to confuse the driver. An automatic dipper is applicable for automatically controlling the headlight intensity. It will not disturb the opposite driver's eyes.

Conclusion:

Night driving is the most challenging. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration declares in (the USA) half of road accidents occur due to the bright glare of headlights. It covers accidents that ride cycles or even walk on pedestrians. Headlights are even prime to drive at night. It is impossible to travel from rural areas without it. American Automobile Association suggests regular maintenance of headlights by replacing their bulbs. The headlight system of vehicles is checked thoroughly before its launching.
