In chambers new, the lawmakers convene,
Their minds awash with thoughts unseen,
A special session unexpected, here they stand,
In India's Parliament, a storied land.
Disruption's shadow looms, a common theme,
Where once debate, now chaos seems,
Opposition parties, united, strong,
Stall the Houses, all day long.
But recall the days of yore,
When India's leaders, proud and sure,
Embraced the Westminster way,
In democracy's early, hopeful day.
They thumped their desks in grand applause,
With "aye" they voted, without pause,
Anglophile spirits, in Parliament's hall,
In admiration, they stood tall.
Yet, time has passed, and change has come,
As India's boisterousness has begun to hum,
Furniture thrown, and microphones torn,
The decorum of old, seemingly forlorn.
Impunity reigns, rules are dismissed,
Lawmakers breach, without a twist,
Suspensions temporary, apologies meek,
The standards we cherish, growing weak.
Opposition needs its rightful space,
In a system where party lines we embrace,
But in this quest, standards fall,
A unique institution, indeed, we call.
Can India's Parliament endure this way?
Or will it, too, begin to decay?
Discrediting itself in public's eyes,
As disruption thrives and standards die.
Perhaps the answer lies across the sea,
In Westminster's practices, tried and free,
Give the Opposition its rightful say,
And disruptions may begin to sway.
Opposition Days, a platform to speak,
To bring forth issues, strong and meek,
Prime Minister's Questions, a lively show,
Accountability, in the spotlight's glow.
The Speaker, too, can lend a hand,
For unity in the house to stand,
Allow dissent, discussion, and voice,
In Parliament's halls, let us rejoice.
If government and Opposition unite,
On these matters, to set things right,
Our democracy, though frayed and worn,
Can still emerge, reborn.
So let us strive, in unity,
To restore our Parliament's dignity,
In verse and action, let it be known,
That India's democracy has truly grown.
