The roadways at the night,
have a peculiar charm I thought,
With roaming people and moving vehicles,
They were busy under the spotlights.
I'd never knew that
It wasn't often right,
If I hadn't spent the long hours of night,
Staring at them as if I was in trance.
I experienced the scary silence
when midnight turned on.

Since I'd paid to catch a bus,
And my luck made a fuss,
The bus broke down on its way to the checkpoint.
I was desperate each time a bus passed
That's where I met the late night,
Because I was an early bird who's early to bed.

I tried to act cool,
As the minutes turned into hours,
I was surrounded by frustration and disappointment.
So I decided to search for a place to stay,
probably on a nearby street.
No window was lit,
My town might be having a sound sleep.
I succeeded in finding a bench at the entrance of the street.
I had a home and the world won't be upside down,
If I don't reach the destination by dawn.

But something tied me from returning home,
It might be a weird thing called destiny.
There came an unexpected guest,
A dog with its shining eyes.
I was just uncomfortable by its visit,
But it approached and I was afraid
It would chase me if I run,
So I calmed myself and it stayed by me.
I made efforts to shake it off,
But it was more persistent than I thought.

Finally, I decided to wander the roads than waiting like a rock,
It followed me like a nagging friend,
No matter how many tricks I'd played,
It succeeded in finding me
As a mother always finds her child.
I got a companion during the unpleasant night,
like the fragrance of hope,
I felt the warmth of a friend when it accompanied me,
It took off my distress,
It made me trust in being optimistic,
that even the darkest times you can find the light.
It brought some sort of positiveness,
a bunch of luck along with its devotedness
It protected me from the other stray dogs,
and lost its way when I found a lobby to wait safely.

I thought it might have returned to its place,
but I regretted that I had nothing to offer to it.
The session of waiting ended fortunately,
The bus had reached the checkpoint finally,
I was boarding the bus, just then
I heard a barking in the pitch silence of midnight,
actually past midnight.
I saw my companion,
with a joyful face bidding me farewell,
wishing me a safe journey,
My gratitude had taken the form of smile,
conveying my companion that
I will be okay...
