SURAT: A 36-year-old Surat resident, Jignesh Laljibhai Talaviya, who worked as an accountant with a Surat-based diamond firm, allegedly faked his own kidnapping. He tied his own hands, gagged his mouth with a white cloth, tied a heavy white cloth tightly around his stomach, wedged himself into an iron window, and then sent a message to his wife demanding Rs. 50 lacs in ransom from his family. Hard to believe, and it’s not a movie scene, but it happened in real life. He was under pressure to clear his huge liabilities of debt. Reportedly, Jignesh lost around 50 to 60 lacs in stock market trading.
The Missing Complaint: Jignesh Talaviya went missing on June 12. The whole matter came to light when his wife Nisha filed a missing complaint with Utran police in Surat. Jignesh Talavia, a resident of the Utran/Mota Varachha area.
The Ransom After the Kidnapping
After lodging the complaint, the incident took a horrible turn. The wife received a terrifying ransom message in Hindi from her husband’s own mobile number. The message said: “Deposit Rs50 Lacs into the account, or else you will receive his corpse. If you inform the cops, we will kill Jignesh.”
To make the kidnapping appear genuine, he sent rehearsed photos and videos to his wife. In the videos, he was seen tied up with a white cloth. At first glance, it appeared genuine, making it seem as though he was being tortured by monstrous kidnappers.
The Clue and Investigation
The whole family was terrified and worried about Jignesh’s well-being. They immediately informed the Surat Police. Realising the seriousness of the situation, the Surat Police formed multiple specialised teams. They launched a massive search operation, using technical surveillance, CCTV footage analysis, mobile location tracking, and human intelligence to trace the “Kidnappers.” Through the message he sent to his wife, the Utran Police traced his location.
The Truth Revealed and Confessed
The intense operation quickly revealed the unbelievable and shocking truth. The police tracked the number location and traced Jignesh all the way to ‘Shiv Hotel’ in Godhra, Gujarat. When the authorities reached the hotel room, they found him safe, secure, sound, and relaxing alone without any kidnapper.
During the investigation, the truth came out. Jignesh confessed that no real kidnapping had occurred. He was facing heavy financial debt. Therefore, he created a movie-style plot to gain Rs. 50 lakhs from his own relatives to pay off his creditors. The police asked him to recreate his own kidnapping scene and demonstrate how he recorded the video showing himself tied up, victimised, helpless, and kidnapped. The police brought him back to Surat. The police took serious action and initiated legal proceedings against him for allegedly misleading the police, creating panic, and fabricating a fake kidnapping scenario with fabricated evidence.
The money mindset: Most crimes occur in the pursuit of money and power. People often overlook phrases like “Greed is a dangerous thing,” and Greed is the root of several evils.” Earning money and striving hard for financial freedom is neither a crime nor wrong. Moreover, studying finance is an important part of education based on economics, wise investments, and financial management. The main issue is the lack of knowledge about the right investments, which can lead to destruction and heavy financial losses.
He might have been good-hearted, had pure intentions, and lived his whole life with decency, but just one mistake made him a culprit. The right kind of knowledge and networking with financial advisors are crucial. However, ordinary people overlook the importance of seeking support and the right guidance.
Poverty, lack of education, and greed to earn huge amounts of money lead nowhere but to destruction. He was already doing well at his job in a diamond firm. He shouldn’t have invested in trading without having enough knowledge about it. Most crimes have one primary motive – to earn money and power. As our elders say, greed is bad. Still, many people fail to understand this and end up in massive debt and mental pressure, which leads them to commit unbelievable crimes.
Risk isn’t bad, but it should always be a calculated risk. What was the wife’s mistake? He made her panic and also wasted the valuable time of the Police officers.
Life is beautiful, and anyone can survive through honest work and wise investments. If such mistakes occur due to poverty and a lack of knowledge about financial investments, then who should take the responsibility? Parents, politicians, or the education system? The fact is, no one really bothers about the huge gap between the rich and the poor. The world may talk about equality, but the pressure to gain power and wealth by any means is immense. Almost everyone talks about earning more wealth, but very few speak about seeking peace and inner happiness.
After all, we live only once. Hence, live with honesty, even if we are not earning as much as those with whom we compare ourselves and by whom we are influenced. Ultimately, we only do wrong to ourselves through comparison, getting affected by bullying, and by getting caught up in so-called competition. Hence, live for ourselves and learn to live with less. You can still live happily.
